Am I missing something or is this thing a piece of crap? Like a sucker I bought one several years ago thinking it would be good for r/c. I quickly found that the "cold" part of the Coldheat name was more accurate. I kept it thinking it would be good for small intricate soldering jobs like inside servos and escs. Well, it's not! A negative motor wire came loose inside my Novak 410-M5 which I use in my Pumpkin. I thought..."Finally, a good job for my Coldheat soldering iron."! Not so much. I had to bust out the big boy which I like, but I don't have a good tip for small jobs like this. Which coinidentally is what I told my wife on our wedding night. Seriously though, does anyone have one of these and is there any good application for it??

wires smaller then 12 ga. it does ok.
the smaller the wire the better it does

yes...wearing out batteries is the best application I found for mine . Count me in as sucker #2...

Same here. Lesson learned NEVER buy crap on tv... oh and stay away from Al Roker

Another vote for piece of CRAP!

i had one and ended up just throwing it away. ended up picking me up a sweet weller 200/260 watt soldering gun. batteries soldered faster than the cell can heat up. no holding it on for the heat to build up through out the piece you are soldering. cant go wrong with one. but it would not be something i would recommend for small jobs.

I use a butane soldering iron. It took me a long time to acctually get one, as all the butane tools I've had in the past sucked pretty hard. Now that I have, I don't see myself going back any time soon. I use a blue point which is the same as the weller PSI-100 butane iron both of which are very high quality and cost in the 100+ neighborhood and it's been going flawlessly for over two years now, heat up super fast, very controlable adjustment, great at the track since you don't need an outlet, and a large selection of high quality tips are included. The only bit of advice for it is to ONLY use master applience brand butane, I found out through my local sanp on tool rep that a lot of butanes have propane in them and these will not work so well in irons and torches, this is the main reason why people have "issues" with butane irons, and will say they are crap, propane in a butane tool is like diesel in a gas engine.
