2010 VONATs Entry Suggestions

After attending the 08 & 09 VONATs and seeing how much fun it was, I've decided to start searching for a "Classic" entry for next years race. I believe the rules are basically any pre-1994 entry level vehicle. What vehicles would you recommend for this class? This years winner was a Bearhawk.

The Falcon that finished 3rd looked pretty good to me.

If I was going to build an entry level vonats car, it would be a Frog and I would copy Brandon's setup. That car could race in 2wd buggy class and do well. (If Brandon was behind the wheel of course)

I think we need a thread on Brandons Frog "HINT HINT"

Hey Mr. Dirtdiver,
Who are you??
Glad you had fun at the VONATs,
Just a bit of a correction, I wish that the Bearhawk was the winner, this year's winner was Brandon's Frog... I just couldn't put that car away, darn skilled driver...
Nicky hung in there with his Falcon, he put in 13 laps, as well with his car.
My suggestions:
Blitzer Beetle, Bearhawk, Frog, Striker or Futaba FX10, Falcon, Fox. Wild One or Fast Attack (My personal Favorite).

After racing Sunday I joined in a conversation Raul was having with Erich about the Classics class. The rules say "Limited to "non-pro" and entry level cars" and Raul felt we may have moved away from the intent of the class. Erich did mention maybe having a youth (or sportsman) race next year. I'm not taking any sides, but there may need to be more distinction in what is and isn't allowed before you decide to make a purchase for next year's race. Maybe PM Erich-- or maybe he can chime in.

Is there a date set for next years race? I'm kinda itching to find out, I just got some very good news. I'm hoping it's the same weekend or a week later. If it's a week earlier, I won't be able to make it.

Well, I don't want to give everything away just yet because nothing has been signed. But, I'll say that it involves my art and a trip over seas and a great opportunity. If all goes according to plan, it will be a very good thing for me. It's been a slow process so far (things like this always are) but things are starting to come together and dates have been set.

Congrats Melvin! that's great, now I'll have to get a piece of your art before then to hang in my hobby room before your prices and demand jump way up.

Scott- that's great and good luck that everything falls into place. Being married to an artist I understand the long-and-winding-road approach to a successful career.

It's not easy, but what I've seen of it you have some great work. Congrats and if you're busy hobnobbing with the runway models in Milan, we'll understand why you're not at the 2010 VONats.

Thank-you for the "Classic" car suggestions.
I will PM Erich about potential rule changes and see if he can get the ball rolling for next year's race date.
Tecnica2001 - I'll send you a PM

Thanks guys. Mark, I wouldn't worry about the prices going through the roof any time soon.
I realize the dust still hasn't settled from this year's race, but the sooner I learn the dates for next year's race, the sooner I can plan things and make sure I can make it. I really want to race a Clod now.

Me personally, I would drive a Wild One if they weren't so darn expensive.
The Fox would be my next choice, followed closely by a Falcon.
The Frog is now retired. He did his job. Gave me a few fits the second go aroung, but got it all sorted out.

Just curious how exactly we moved away from the intent?
