Optima Belt Drive

Hello,

I'm new here. I just discovered this forum recently. I find that a lot of people in here have been doing what I've been doing for the past several years which is restoring old RC cars. I used to race RC cars back in the 1980s and early 1990s. It got too expensive and I found other things to do with my time.

Recently I bought an Optima (had a couple of them back in the day). I've completely gone through it and cleaned/refurbed/replaced every worn part.

The car looks great but I want to put a belt drive conversion kit into it. As all of you know, they're expensive (when you can find one for sale).

My question is this: can a conversion be done using parts from an Optima Mid? Has anyone ever tried it? I know the belts are the same size and therefore I assume that maybe the sprockets are the same?

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

BTW, I'll post pictures once I figure out how.

Thanks.

yes, should be possible.
As far as I know the conversion is just the mid belt and diff houses plus a guide for the belt that goes in the rear gearbox. I'm sure you can find pics of that guide or the manual for the kit.

Yes, that's the one. I ordered 3 of these from Tower Hobbies back in 1998 along with many other "OT" Optima parts still floating around in their inventory. Long gone now.

Is this one currently for sale?
