I've been cruising all over this site as well as a few others, and I don't see many gold pans with the old wiper arm speed control. I know even back in the day they were worthless right out of the box. Most everyone I knew put an aftermarket electronic controller in right away. I have yet to see a car on the bay with a mechanical one. My main points is; are they worth anything now? Are they somewhat rare at this point? Either way, I'm hanging on to mine but was just wondering why I don't see many cars with the original speed control.

Most of us have them, they are just in the box where they belong

One thing I've learned since taking an interest in r/c to an interest in "vintage r/c" is that there are very few really hard to find items. A lot of things just draw very little interest. I'm still surprised at how many gold pans come up every day. I would have guessed they were all put to pasture long ago. The population is so large and the internet phenomenon so big that it brings almost all early r/c items to the surface if there is a demand. That doesn't mean to sound discouraging it's just a fact. That being said, always be on the lookout. And above all hold on to what you have. It's probably worth more to you than it is to anyone else. The world is full of trolls that care nothing for vintage r/c and are just on the lookout for profit. That's true of everything in life though.

Sorry, I just had to add that I don't mean to call everyone in r/c or vintage r/c trying to make a profit trolls. More power to anyone that wants to make a profit. Without them the rest of us wouldn't be able to buy it. Sell on trolls!

Yeah, if anything I'll keep it since it's what I ran with on the car as a kid. Which is the biggest reason why I'm keeping the car to begin with.

Well hopefully I'm not coming off as a troll either nor do I take offense to what you've said, but I can see where someone might get that impression. Mine is simply just a curiosity as to what the value is on what I have. I have already been watching ebay for Super Champs and gold pans just to see where mine might fall into place. Like I mentioned, I am keeping my stuff regardless. Including my POS wiper arm speed controller.

Bottom line...those speed controllers sucked back then and they still suck now is the message I'm getting. Make perfect sense. Thanks for all the feedback everyone!!!

I just put one in my rc10. It only cost about $25 for all nip parts. I wanted more of the totally stock look like I had in 1986. Also it was fun to solder those wires and adjust everything. I was glad others didn't like them since it saved me money, but that nip white transmission housing... Ouch!

Mr Novak was a smart and/or lucky gent when his ESC ended up in the boxart photos. There was a time when resistors were the upgrade. I still got a couple of these laying around...

I've seen some very cool setups like that before ( way before my racing career ) I'd love to find one of these some day ( I wouldn't even put it in the box )

Rheostat is the term, #$%# I don't know why I still remember that. This one's a Parma (it's blue - duh ). I think Race Prep made a similar one that was silver. But that's all I remember. - Brian

I have a mechanical with a reverse on it in my CE. I'm goingto keep it because it's funky and a piece of history.
