Traxxas TRX-1 racer buildup (updated 6/2/10)

I just got a TRX-1 last week. I've owned one before
http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4696
Brandon also let me borrow his car for some comparison and a little parts swapping
http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=9960&start=15
This car came with a bunch of NIP parts and 2 bins full of good used parts. When I got it someone had tried to make a buggy/truck type thing, but I had more than enough good parts included to take her back to stock.
Once I get this car fully put together and debugged I'll be racing it at the local track, we have a laid back buggy class with more vintage cars than B4's. I just need to rebuild the diff and get a body and a few small parts and she'll start ripping it up!
NIP rear bulkhead and trinity stock motor
set up with AE axles for now, they don't fit right so don't waste your time.
bottom side, pretty clean, a few extra holes
comparison of Brandon's SWB chassis, I think his looks much nicer
cool shot IMHO, B4 front wheels mocked up for now, failed experiment
Not bad overall
Next to Brandon's TRX-1. Mine's just a racer, his is an example!

I'm going to see if one of Brandon's Pro-X bodies will fit. If it doesn't I think a XX body might work. I'm not too concerned with finding an original body, I'm going to race mine so it's really just about what will fit without the chassis plate sticking out in the front.
I do know someone with a NIP body in the bag

But there's probably not enough demand to justify repro'ing that one.

Are you looking for the original sliding driveshafts? I see their missing in your pic.
Whomever would make a repro would make good $$$ trust me

The drive shafts are off so I can get to the diff to rebuild it, I just had to get the car all together for pictures though.
The repro body is not up to me so I can't speak on it, but he told me he has no plans to make one right now.

Hey Mark, if you want a decent runner/racer body like was discussed on the 'other' board that mentioned the Duratrax Evader BX buggy bodies like this one :
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCXR1&P=7
fit nicely. Covers up the front of the chassis like you want and they aren't all that expensive. The one in the link is the one I have fit to mine that also came from the 'other board' and the clear one if you want it cheaper is only like $21.49. The only thing I don't like about the prepainted ones is the windows are stickers on the outside that just don't look right.

Love this car. And I love the one from TRX-1 Scott Montgomery. After the 92 nats I remember seen the race report and I almost switch all my associated to Traxxas. My first New car was a Traxxas Bullet but when the TRX-1 came out it was the coolest. I will keep my eye open to include one in my collection.
Hey, on the body. If the Evader body fits what about this.

I think it is way cooler.

That would probably work on the SWB chassis, but the stock chassis stays full width until right before the bellcranks.
Thanks for the info Klavy, yeah stickers for windows just aint right. I was hoping one of my rc10 bodies would fit, not even close. I really hope one of Brandon's Pro-X body's fit, it looks really cool.
The "other board", funny I haven't been on there since I sold that other car lol. Now I need to find an LS2 to have my vintage Traxxas fix completed.

don't you think this would look closer to the original? It's called 'stinger' and comes from 'step up'

it looks too narrow towards the front end. what kind of car is that bod on? It looks like a knock off B4/tamiya cross breed

kind of narrow yes, but you could trim the chassis a bit: more than space enough with modern electronics

kind of reminds me of the original starfighters in battlestar galactica
The brand is step up, model is called stinger EB-1. Just one of the new cheap brands

Doubtful (about making good $$$ part anyway)
Mark, go here:
http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12446&p=118998#p118998
I added some top views of the Pro-X body. It gets wide quick at the chassis. I had a problem finding one that would work with it for the same reason.

Yep, I check in the marketplace and vintage sections then head over here...usually takes about 2 minutes before I get to this board

. Thats where I bought my first trx1
The thing I was thinkin of though is if you remember harry6897 from the 'other board' I believe he is selling his LS2 last I remember. I've gotten alot of stuff from him(Sam) and usually at a great price...just something to think about anyway. If you pm him there I'm sure he could get you some pix. Anyways nice lookin racer. Gotta get around to doing something with mine sometime this winter.

someone here, I think redscampi, used a losi body on his pro-x. I guess that would work also for you.
What 's the story with the SWB chassis? Is the LWB from the blue eagle? And are the 2 cars pictured above SWB and LWB or just different chassis shapes?
