the "Triumph" of my "Turbo Ultima"

The Turbo Ultima is my first rc car...bought it back in '89 and never got to race it. in '92 I was able to get the Triumph and never got to race it too. Then for a very long time, I stopped playing. Got back in the game only 4 years ago. My kits have shown ageing especially the triumph whose rod ends have cracked and got moldy. So i tried ot make a hybrid out of it. I decided to rebuild the ultima instead of the triumph 'coz I wanted to race the ultima. I used the triumphs tranny on the ultima and was able to get um-44 arms just recently.

My objective is to rebuild both kits starting with the turbo ultima, not as a shelfer but a runner. It has been my frustration to see my turbo ultima go against other cars. The triumph perhaps would be a shelfer as it has very little scratches on its chassis.

I have ordered some other goodies from ebay....but haven't gotten the time to install it yet....

...will post pics as I progress in my rebuild.

I'm a little lost as to why you switched triumph drive train over if you're gonna restore the triumph too?

But, as long as you're having fun keep doing what you're doing. 1 car is enough to run and either should be fun especially if you can do it laid-back in a stock class.

What front wheels are those by the way?

I was able to get an A&L tranny for the ultima but haven't installed it yet. The triumph will get its tranny back. I just installed it on the ultima a year ago so I could run the ultima on an almost stealthy setup. I do plan to race it stock, but who knows...

The wheels are for a tamiya DT02 (I think). I know it's for a 2wd tamiya model but i can't really recall the model...bought it off ebay. The rear wheels are on 7mm negative offset which meant I needed to thicken my wheel hub. The front wheels have a bigger bearing dimension...luckily, I was able to get a bearing to fit the wheel, I think it was a 14x4mm bearing.

I will be changing the drive shaft to a cvd which would fit the ultima once I find one. I have, however, seen a tamiya cvd which is 64mm and could use the proline wheels. Would 64mm work? Will check all my items first before I proceed with rebuilding my cars.

Will post pics. Hope you guys can help me with some parts if I need any.

Hey Vin,
check around some of the other ultima builds, you'll find good info for example the correct lentgh CVD is 62mm: like on an ultima rb5.
Sticking with the dogbone would allow using an hpi axle which is longer and gives you the extra offset.

Look around
