hotshot 'motor plate' question

I found this hotshot manual:

Note that in figure 6, there is this thing called a 'motor' plate to be placed between the motor and the gearbox. I remember ta01 also has something like this, sort of like a thing piece of green/grey piece, it was a rather unbreakable piece except if you cut it. Do you know what is it for? Insulation?
I guess there must be a functional reason for it. Any info?
