Every December, the local YMCAs hold a "Strong Kids" fundraiser that involves a polar bear plunge in Bald Eagle State Park. My company is a sponsor and several employees plunge each year. This year, I took part. Air temperature was about 32 F and the water was about 42 F (we've had a warm Fall...last year the water was 33 F and they had to chop the ice off the surface). Still, it was pretty freakin' cold! I'm in the second group, in the grey shirt. My wife did the filming. She thinks I'm crazy, but it was a lot of fun and I'll definitely do it again next year.

Glad you had a good time. I'll hoist another nice hot cup of coffee from the warmth of my office in your honor. 8)

It's really not as bad as it sounds...or looks. There's a couple of seconds of shock (including a WTF am I doing? thought) and then your skin becomes so numb, you don't even feel the cold after that. I can't wait to do it again next year and I hope it's colder :D .

Where I go camping, the streams are all snow melt. Even in the middle of summer that water is fricken cold! Most of the time I can't go past the knee, and the boys certainly don't like it when I do!

Yeah, the cold water was a little tough on the boys; they didn't come out of hiding for a couple of hours afterward!

I saw this on my friends Facebook page. She was a Penn State graduate.

Cool; I'm glad it's making the rounds. Did your friend participate?

I see you're in Pennsburg. I'm originally from Allentown, but have been in State College for 10 years now. I'm a PSU grad too.

Robert
