went down to a buddies house today and mounted some new super swamper 34x9.5x15's on my sammy. my old ones were at about 50%, besides one that was maybe 5%, due to whoever had the rig before me neglecting a sticking brake caliper...

anyway, i did some reading and purchased some innovative balancing 'dyna-beads' that you put inside the tire before setting the bead. i never in a million years would have thought 10oz of teeny ceramic beads per wheel just floating around inside the tire would balance, but i'll be damned if it didnt ride smooth as heck (or about as smooth as you could expect out of a tsl swamper).

i would recommend them to any of you who wheel and/or have a hard time balancing. whats cool about them is they are constantly active, so if you go out to the trails and spin a tire or have a ton of mud throwing things out of balance they will adapt. before i changed the tires, the wheels had on average about 20oz of stick-on weights put on top of each other per wheel...

whatcha doin with the 50% tires? you got any more info on the adapting balancer beads? I've seen stuff like that before but never thought they'd work

i let my buddy keep them. he helped me a ton by having a tire machine and also letting me ship the new tires to his place. i had no use for them, and would much rather see them go to a friend than have some stranger try to haggle me on them if i posted them on craigslist or something.

i read up quite a bit on them before deciding to give them a shot, and as with everything on the internet there are people who swear by them and people who say they dont work. all i know is my ride coming home with the new tires and internal balancing was smoother than the drive down with the old tires and rim weights.

From what I've read about them, the tire is rebalanced by the free floating beads, every time it moves. As a result, as the tire wears and the balance changes, the beads are able to compensate.

The bad thing - again, this is something that I've read about - is if you hit a chuck hole, the beads get slammed out of their position in the rotating tire, resulting in severe out of balance until the beads resituate themselves. If this happens at speed, the resulting wheel wobble could cause an accident.

for the most part, they sound pretty slick.

there were a couple nasty sections of i94 in indiana that were under construction, one of them bad enough to make my leaf springs hit the bumpstops, and i didnt notice any sudden increased vibes. i got a relatively light wheel & load compared to most though. i wasnt going really fast either, maybe 50.

There you go then, it was a myth purveyed by the anti-beadlings!

You now know that you have no excuses for getting it stuck in the mud with those things on it.....

Alot of guys just use AirSoft BB's.....work good up till @ a 37" tire.
Regardless, those 34x9.50's don't wear very even, so any "ride quality" gained by ballancing them will soon be lost if they're driven on the street alot.....

i had the same tires on it before. and it does quite well in the mud thank you...

I was just playing around!

I know all too well how small trucks go in the mud. I've owned rangers all my life and most of my friends with full size trucks will tell you they got stuck many more times than me. One good thing about small trucks is even if you do get stuck a couple guys can pick it up and move it out of the hole. Yes......I have had that happen. The bad thing is if they get their full size stuck, you aint pulling them out!

Nice tires they should work well!

its a pain but if you rotate them every 1500-2000 miles they wear very nice and even. Still they don't last 20k miles on the average but for how they throw mud they are well worth it.

my old swampers lasted pretty good considering that 3 were prolly 75% or so when i got them. the other one was cupped really bad but after i rebuilt the front knuckles and put all new brakes on it at least wore even, eventually wearing down the cupped areas of the tire.

i wish i had more space in my garage, i'd get a set of more street appropriate tires so i'm not needlessly eating these away in my daily commute...

dunno when i'll get it out again. still got to replace the weak and flat stocker yj front springs with some rubicon express yj's and weld-in a beefier rear shock crossmember. also have all the stuff to swap in a gm alternator, just been procrastinating a bit...
