Thanks to Jay Dub I got a scratch built off roader. This thread will be for it's build up, I'm still coming up with ideas on what to do with it. Here's a pic to get this started.

It will probably go slow at first. I'm going to start on the rear and work my way forward. I need to order some delrin and Aluminum rod this week to make chassis standoffs and a new rear arm mount. I'm trying to come up with something I could modify to make work, but the pivot points are so close together that I'll just have to scratch build some.

To make it easier to get the antisquat and toe in right, I'm going to make the arm mounts at zero degrees. I'll use shims for antisquat and some 3 degree hubs.

Need to find a stealth tranny for it too

Did Jay Dub build this before he passed it on to you? Looks like it was inspired by Siebenelch's Vitec or Masami's special.

I hope you find a way to mount the stealth while keeping those rear hinges close together

I'll watch this with interest too! I was going to jump on it but realized that I wouldn't get to it this century... Glad to see it went somewhere it will be loved.

very nice fabrication skills by Jay Dub. Are the arms fabricated or something off the shelf?

one option you have to mount the rear arms close together is to actually mount the inner bracket(s) on the bottom side of the chassis, rather than on top, and utilize the trans mounting screws(and a couple more) to secure the whole deal. basically, a flat piece of 1/4" nylon with a stealth pattern, and 2 pin holes drilled. I've been thinking about spinning up a hand made car just like this. if you use something like the rc10 gt hub carriers, or possibly something from a touring car, you can make sure the axle is high enough in the carrier so that the low arm mount works.

another option would be to use a later model trans, that drops the lower gear into the chassis a little, like a b2-b4, just due to better slipper and availability of parts. this would bring the drive cups even lower in the chassis, probably improve the geometry.

Can we have some more detailed pictures of the rear end as it is please?

If the hingepins are in the way of the transmisson housing I may have an idea. Taking the pics from above with a ruler next to the arms inside would be ideal

Here are some more pics, I had a stealth sitting around for another project so I test fit real quick. The tranny fits fine, I would have to trim the motor plate slightly to install it right now.

I think I'm going to make this a mid motor car the more I keep tinkering with it.

Oh and the rear hingepins are just a hair over 1 inch apart.

It looks perfect as is. I really wonder what made him give up on this project.

I don't think he gave up on it, the bottom of the car says it was a runner at some point. I'm just going to change it up a bit before I give it away at the VONATS next year.

The car was a runner at one time, but being a factory driver for schumacher I rarely had an opportunity to run it without causing a "ruckus". It only had a few runs on it, what I do remember was the wicked acceleration compared to my schuies (propably the strealth tranny vs. the belt). I am glad to see it go to someone who will use it and have fun, as it has been sitting in the bottom of a box for some 18 years (I am pretty sure that is how old I was when I built it). Originally the car had losi spindles and hubs in the front. But before I sent it, I looked at it and thought a more modern style losi or associated might be more appropriate because of the wide mounting points for the upper tie rods (less camber gain this way). Anyways. have fun, and keep us updated. -Jeff

That 10deg of anti squat didn't hurt the forward bite either Look's like a blast to restore-very cool to the builder, and new owner-
