Well let me start by saying what a great site full of awesome information. I recently went through my garage and noticed my old RC10 in box in the garage and started pulling up tons of info and most were from this site. So let me say thanks and im glad I found a site with a lot of knowledgable people and creative ideas. Now on to what I have going on, I have and original Edinger Gold Pan, so I thought until I read the write up time-line and saw the differences between the Cadillac and Edinger and most parts that I have are from the Cadillac model. Well I have 2 Gold Pans,1 is 90% complete to factory specs, pretty and white too. My second was in a little worst shape and figure to make that one my runner. I began stripping the color from all gold pieces, tranny mount, pan, nose, and shock bodies and go with an anodized blue. Then dyeing all nylon pieces black,(dont worry all the dyed pieces were no woear near white, all horribly aged). So right now I am figuring out whats missing to get my runner going, its a six gear and has wide front a-arms, no motor or electrics, im just trying to get the chassis going first. So to start on my first question, is there any upgrade I can do to the 6 gear trans without going out and buying a stealth trans? Im trying to stay budget conscious as later I will upgrade the suspension and trans, but just want to get the 6 six gear updated. My next question is what model B2, B3, or B4 has compatible parts with the original gold pan. Thanks for having such a great site and I will leave some pictures of the progress of where I am at.

1. there are not many upgrades that you can do on the 6 gear trans. the best things to do to get it as fresh and to perform its best would be the following.
  • new idler gears
  • all new bearings throughout
  • ceramic diff balls
  • sanded and polished diff rings
2. using parts from later model buggies can be done but there are limited parts that can be used. and most of those require other changes. if the car is going to be a runner/racer you may want to look into the 2.2 wheel conversions. now on a brighter note. most of the parts are available through tower hobbies for your buggy.

So really it sounds like I better search ebay for stealth tranny, first edition correct or can I use the stealth from the graphite model also? I planned to do the 2.2 conversion I just want to get the rolling chassis going before I spend money where I dont need to just yet. Thanks for the tips.

Some of the things that I did to my original RC10 transmission was I took the out drive gears and some Semi-chrome polish and polished the gears up really good. Then I took the shaft out of the plate that held the out drive gears and I filed the hole downward just a little bit. This was to free up the gears a little bit. (optional) Also I took a very fine grinding wheel on my dremel (on low speed) and I ground the teeth on the out drive gears then polished them. Doing this, cleaning the bearings and lubing them with a high quality bearing oil made this trans AWESOME!!! I got so many compliments back in the day.
