Electrical battery charging question

I have a 6volt/12volt charger that charges at 2,4 or 6 amps.
It was originally meant for motorcycles batteries, and the like.
I now have a different charger for the bikes so it is collecting dust.
Could I change the connection on that to fit my 7.2volt RC car battery and use the 6volt setting at 2 or 4 amps?
My hobby battery charger took a crap and I'd rather not spend the money if it will work.
The hobby charger charges from 0-6amps and 4-5amps is recommended for the batteries I use, which are 3000mah.
Does the question come down to nicd/nimh type vs. the auto/motorcycle type?
Thanks.

I have a batt that is still taking a charge but not anything I'd ever run again... should I just give it a shot? :shock: And do the fireworks run. :D

make sure you're wearing a cup and an aluminum foil hat when you hook it up. And take a video too!

Do NOT charge a subC nicad/NiMH pack with any charger made for Lead Acid 6/12v.

Yes it will "work" in that it will pump current into any battery... but it won't know when to turn off.

Lead Acids have a very different charging profile to Nickel & can tolerate some overcharging;
subCs are best charged with a peak-detect charger to avoid (damaging) overcharging.
