Someone asked to see a car I had on my workbench a bit closer, so here it is. This is the original Super Champ I had when I was 12, which was a box of parts up until about five or six years ago. I had to get ebay to help me get it running again, and it's a classic hot rod at this point. Yes I've run it. All my cars are runners...the question is where I run them . This one went in a wide open grassy park, with lawn like a golf green.

That is an awesome car, looks perfect in every way and certainly beefy.

It needs a bit of a cleaning and I'll get some pics of it naked. This was just a quick post because germanrc10gt asked. I'll elaborate later on this week when I get some more time. -B

I'd really like to find a new body to repro from. I think it's Parma, but I can't be certain. I have been able to find any documentation for it. Tak has one on one of his SRBs.

It's an MRP "Super Champ". I got it NIP 4 or 5 years ago from a guy that had 2 or 3. At the time they didn't seem all that rare as they were floating around the TC circles. Still have the header card (Black with the red/orange/yellow label and the Woodinville WA address), but the sticker with the PN crisped up and fell off. I'm pretty positive it's also on this car...

And yes that's a Hydra Drive under there...it was a mock up experiment and I was just playing around. The smallest (purple) spur is still too big given the fixed motor position. I need a more traditional slipper. Maybe I'll field suggestions once I get the nude photos...

Built it in the "hot rod" style..ie use a classic chassis and stuff in a modern power plant and drive train. Nude...








It's been a few years since and I built it and ran it (w/o the hydra). It went REALLY nicely w/o really getting it airborne or anything crazy. I will rebuild the rear end at some point. Most of parts are from my original 1983 collection, with some more custom fabrications/modifications completed during restoration.

It's worth noting I payed attention to some geometry and it handles WAY better than any SRB I've ever driven. Worth noting...

Chassis. my original CRP butterfly is naturally a tad longer, but I also re-drilled the front out to the edges to add even more front wheel width. Also has lowering blocks custom made at an angle to steepen (shim forward) the suspension travel angle (less bounce), limit the bump steer, and lower the battery ride elevation (cg) by a bit. If that makes sense to anybody still reading? Lowering blocks were actually a mod bid.

Sway bars - Classic CRP in the rear, and the front is my own fabricated setup that also helps maintain the camber on the kinda flexy RCH arms.

Wanted the battery north-south to further limit the devilish sway, so I flipped the front servo to fit it all in line. The battery position is tunable, and can be far enough forward that the weight is better balanced against that heavy rear. Decent front-to back balance seems to be tighter steering and maybe less bounce.

The rear roll bar is just cut from an old JG piece. I fit the plate onto it to allow variations in rear shock angle. Bringing them into the center looks better because I can fit a body over them, but it also combats sway...even more anti-sway.

Tranny is cut down a bit, but I tried to maintain some aesthetics. All brass and a Thorp inside.

I replaced the internals on the old Kyosho shocks with MIP gold shafts and those RPM pistons with the two-way function, with the stiffer compression and lighter rebound setting. I can actually pick the car up a a few inches and drop it w/out bounce.

Oh and keeping with the car's Super Champ roots, the side scoops are hand made and the left side is open to feed the Novak fan Whoa I just spell checked this puppy and I can't type worth a lick!
