I just got a great lot of cars, I have a 12L, 12I, and 10L are their manuals on line? thanks

ok I just got this 12L and 12I and I dont know anything at all about them. the 12L tires are all cracked up. can you just soak them off in aceatone and put on new foams or just buy new ones?

I just doug through the parts and put the I back together as much as possible. I need to find a rear pod top plate, and hardwere, and two post to hold up the radio tray. and were good unless you see something wrong. if so please speak up I have never had a 12 scale anything except a lunchbox.

I used to cut my foams off, first I trued them down, then sanded the rest off, and glued on new tires. I am sure there is a way to soak em, although I am not sure. I used to boil my 1:8 rims and tires (Offroad) to get the glue to separate (did not work all the time) . Good luck with the resto though. I always liked the Fiberglass cars.

I soak mine in "purple power" cleaner for a few days, cut a slit in the foam from the inside to the outside of the rim and peel it like an orange. (It's slow, but very effective). Here is a set of rears from my 12lw I just "cleaned-up"

that looks good thanks, I may give it a shot but I may have a line on some new ones so we will see. my body should be here tomorrow I cant wait. I am excited to mount and paint it up. the decals are here waiting.

What is this purple power? Does it eat away the glue, and does it work with rubber tires?

its a cleaner,it use to be Castrol Super Clean, it will take off glue, chrome, paint. and your skin, its great stuff. you get it in the automotive section of Walmart

It goes by many names, it is a purple colored biodegradable automotive cleaner a few steps higher than simple green, I source mine from Advance Auto Parts and they call it purple power.

Bearrickster is correct, this stuff will strip paint, chrome, glue residue...etc, actually just about anything that isn't welded to the surface when used un-diluted. (I have not tried it on anodized aluminum yet). I have noticed, it re-constitute's the glue to a semi-gel state (similar to raw chicken skin) and thus releases most of the surface tension. ***A word of caution, it is very caustic and any time you are using this stuff straight, wear latex or nitrile gloves as it will irritate your skin.***

Does it attack the wheel material, or just the coating / glue. That is some good info though.

no it makes them look almost new. its great stuff, and only about 8 bucks a Gal. I soak everything in it. I just get an old butter tub or tupper wear, stick it in close it up forget about it for a few days. it cleans the glue off great. I keep an old tooth brush on the lid of mine. and I have a whole 10L soaking now fiberglass and all alumimum graphite axle, and so on. I havent found anything it doesnt work on. but no plastic with chrome or paint unless you want it off.

It will take anodizing off of aluminum parts, I found out the hard way on my new Vspec!

I use the method that bearrickster described verbatum...a 1 gallon tub with a lid, an old toothbrush, a razor blade (or x-acto knife) and some scraper's and I can clean just about anything. I am right in the middle of restoring my MRC MT-10M, and I just completed cleaning the wheels. They had bits of rubber tire and CA glue pretty much covering the bead, but after a couple days soak and some elbow grease, they are ready for new tires. So yes, it works on rubber tires as well.
