Can this be done ???

OK,

There not going to re-produce the 4X4 kit! So can we use something else?? From another car? Scab one together? I seen a kit go for way to much on the bay and there is a car on there now with this setup missing teeth in belt, Belt stretched, and other goodies but ???? $$$$$$$ over a $1,200 buy it now.

I have a couple cars I could use as a Ginnie Pig

Has it been done before??

Anything is possible. Here are some things you'll need to address:
- Making an output shaft for the Stealth with pulley on it.
- Getting the belt through/around the rear bulkhead.
- Mounting the differential up front.
- Finding the right size belt.

The conversion itself is conceptually very simple, but making it work without custom-making a lot of the parts will be tricky.

I think it actually might be easier to adapt a complete touring car drivetrain to the RC10 chassis. The original RS4 used a very Stealth-like 3-gear transmission, that could be turned 180 degrees to put the motor at the rear, and the front differentual mount should fit up front if you do some grinding.

Hmm, this really has me thinking now LOL I have a couple RS4s and a Sprint 2, I think the front diff housing will fit between the front arm mounts if you grind them down, and the transmission might fit between the rear arm mounts. Hmm....

There are plenty of real four wheel drive buggys that will eclipse the performance of an MIP kitted rc10. The draw to the MIP kit was it's expense and rareity. anything else would be just a lame imitation

The only "REAL" problem I see is making the front tranny case. Just like in the 4WD B3 project car.

Then use original Diff and idler up front and you're almost there.

Other than that the longer idler gear shaft shouldn't be that hard.

There was a thread called the "MIPKIN" wich combined a Tekin Mid-Motor chassis with the MIP 4x4 kit.

That is NOT my project, but I liked it so much I saved all the pics from it, I'll add one here 4 now.

The biggest challenge with any mid motor conversion with 4wd is to get the belt past the motor wich will the be in the way.

I never finished he projec bu I got a good end on a 4WD ultima using the mip idea.
Basically I used origianl gearboxes with longer top shafts, a pair of pulleys and a belt o connec them.

You could do the same with 2 stealths but like me you'll end up with a very high front... I considered making it a stadium truck racer but as there's no 4WD truck class I didn't see the point and quit on it

Just placing some parts in a bare chassis, it would be possible to stick an HPI RS4 drivetrain in an RC10 chassis. It would be pretty simple actually, especially if you wanted to leave it a mid-motor chassis. The hardest part would be getting the front housing to work with the front kick-up, but that can be overcome too. It would probably be easiest to do this with a flat graphite or fiberglass chassis, so you don't have to cut out the walls of the tub. You could still use the front kick-up plate.

If you wanted to use a second Stealth up front, you could either use an extended shaft off the idler gear, and bypass the topshaft altogether, or you could machine a new case and drop the topshaft down to mate with the diff, so you don't have to use different pulleys to accommodate for the different ratios. The idler gear has no affect on the final drive ratio; it's just there for spacing, because of the large spur gear.

you'll have to use the topshaft on both sides or the center shaft on both sides: those have to turn inthe same direction. OTherwise your front and rear will just fight eachother.
