Monster Beetle rebuild...slow

I just put my old MB back together (using a Frog chassis). I rebuilt the Thorpe ball diff (using new balls) and it felt smooth when I turned it by hand after assembly. When I apply the throttle, the wheels turn fine if the truck is not on the ground. As soon as it is placed on the ground, it just creeps. I have tried different motors, pinions, and batteries all with the same result. Any thoughts?

is it creeping slowly even though the motor sounds like it is spinning fast, or is the motor bogging down?

The motor is definitely still spinning fast (normal speed). It just creeps. I'm going to dismantle the ball diff and replace all the balls. I think that maybe I didn't use enough of the 1/16 balls. Do you think that may be the cause?
Thanks for the response.

if the motor is going fast but the truck is not moving much, the diff is likely loose. I would take it apart, clean and inspect the whole diff. re-assemble carefully and make sure that if you hold both of the outdrives you cannot spin the iff gear by hand.

Cool. I will see if that works and I will let you know. Thanks!

It worked! Thanks for the advice. All I need now is a body. Any recomendations on a motor? I'm keeping it simple...no LiPos or Brushless power needed. A 27T?

Fronts will bolt right on. Rears will need the 5-pin adaptor on this HPI tree....

Thanks, man. I saw those included with an HPI wheel set. The King Blackfoot wheels would look cool since they are red and match a lot of the plastic on the chassis.

I like the look of the chrome KBF wheels on the Monster Beetle. Everytime I open this post I hoping to see pics.

I can do that, Shodog.
