I have 2 or 3 servo mounts and linkage in my parts box that came with my truck. I was going to use them to put a steering servo in my truck with them. But after looking at the instructions they say to only use double sided sticky tape. That would explain the Texas sized piece that was on my frame in the steering servo's location. I know the stuff is strong, as I can tell by the scratch marks left on the frame by the previous owner. But is it that strong to hold the servo in place? Is this the way to go, or use the mounts and linkage?

personally, for servos that cant be mounted via mounting ears (yokomo mx4, pan cars etc), i prefer shoe goo. i have had tape pop off on me in the past.. shoe goo has never failed on me... and it can be removed with a flat head screwdriver no problem...

the only downside is it takes 24 hours to really cure and get a good hold... So not a "track side" fix, but trackside you can use servo tape.. goo almost always comes off in 1 peice (doesnt leave shrapnel all over the place)

servo tape is my choice i use this stuff from home depot amazing grip and leaves no residue once removed when i want to remove it i wedge a piece of cedar between the servo and the pan and leave it for an hour it prys it up nice

A trick I use is to first put a layer of electrical tape, then apply the double sided, makes removal a lot less daunting, and doesnt harm the grip . Worke even better on receivers ! Just an FYI

Is there a reason the mounts are not used? An un-used set came with the RC10T I bought and I thought they would work better than just double sided tape.

I tried using the mounts and it seemed to be an alignment issue. Nothing seemed to align up right without bending arms. But it may of been because I was trying to use the original RC10 steering link (piano wires). But with the tape it seems like you can just put it where you want it and stick it.

Since servo gears can strip teeth, I rarely use servo tape, or 3m heavy duty double-sided foam tape.

I like the RPM servo mounting posts, and I just use a dremel with a sanding head to "hand mill" the thickness of the rearmost post, so that it clears the battery cup which I've relocated due to use of longer (liPo) batteries.

Posts are more secure and obviously you can take the servo out whenever you want, but servo tape works too. I used to use a bead of Shoe Goo around the servo after the tape was in place, stiffened it up a bit. I always used the black hobby-grade stuff from Bolink or Associated for this. The key is to cover the whole surface for maximum grip. Even silicone around the base is a good idea, to keep dirt from working under the edges, which can loosen it up over time.

I have been using Velcro for my ESCs and receivers lately, it holds well if you use enough to cover the whole bottom of the case.

Another question about the steering on this thing. What kind of steering arm do I use on the servo? I'm used to Tamiya's that had a servo saver that mounts to the servo. But from what I'm reading the saver is built into the steering mechanism on AEs. So do you just use a regular standard arm?

Many cars and trucks now have the servo saver built into the bellcranks. It started with the original RC10, but then went away for a while, then people started doing it again to save space with cars like the Losi XX and RC10B-series.

You get one for each of the four major servo types. They are sturdier than than the set of arms that come with servos. A bunch of companies make them, just search for 'servo arm' or 'servo horn', so almost anything will work, just make sure if fits your servo.
