Grasshopper thoughts..(Ordered one)

I always wanted a grasshopper when I was a kid and the parents never surprised me with one. I have thinking about buying one but I really am being hesitant. I am afraid if I buy one, I will go nuts and spend way more money than what I should.
Would it be worth picking up a used one from eBay or just buying a new one from the get go?
Any thoughts on this would be helpful since I have no experience with these cars.
I have been eyeing the awesome aluminum wheels on eBay for the tamiya cars and man they are sooooo tempting to buy. I figure if I buyt the wheels, I will be obligated to buy the car. I think I need to think about this one before I make the leap.
Thanks
Jake

$89.99 not bad, if you don't mind a repop!

I say go for it!

^^^ X2. Especially if you want to run it. The Re-releases make great childhood-reliving-runners..

And at that price with an ESC! Go for it!!

Definitely go for it! I did have one as a kid (the only "real" rc car I had), but it was short lived due to the speed controller catching on fire and just other hazards of childhood
I bought a re-re last summer and have had an awesome time with it. I have a thread on here with what I did to mine (a handful of home modifications), but with a 540 motor in it you'll be amazed at the speed and durability. I liked it so much I bought an extra bumper, body and decals in case the body it came with gets broken or damaged beyond repair (has been into a few trees and flipped too many times to count...still in great shape!). In fact, my tamtech fox shattered a front a arm and the wing was destroyed within the same time frame as I've run the grasshopper. And plus, they are DIRT cheap! The options and modifying is where you get into trouble with the cash. I say get it, build it and run it a while. You'll then be able to decide how far you want to go with it. I almost picked up another one just for parts or as a "MIB".

do it. my hopper/hornet/rockbuster is a blast. i picked up mine used on the bay for 40 bux with a vintage aristocraft/hitec stick radio, protek peak charger and and old school hump pack (that still works). it's the car that got me back into rc.
they are so much fun, a challenge to drive well. so many cool period correct hop ups still available too.
personally i'd put a 540 silver can in it asap. they are suprisingly quick with the 540.

You guys are not helping me with this
Well I am looking. That one at Tower is pretty cheap too. I already have a perfect radio and ESC for the car. A 540 motor with my lipos and Novak ESC would probably make the car fly.

Do it, to me the Grasshopper is the epitome of basher/runner fun. Bullet-proof. I have done the stupidest thing to my grasshoppers, they just take it.

Well I went and did it. I have a NIB Grasshopper on the way, a set of bearings, and some really nice aluminum wheels (See link).

I will be sure to post some pics when i get the car. I will start a new thread for the build. Since I have a radion, ESC, and motor I thought, why not.
Thanks for the push over the edge guys.....

yeah sooner or later you were going to have to get one so..

WOW, those wheels are awesome....but man, they're almost as much as the grasshopper itself!
edit: wonder how those would look anodized green

I love the wheels you picked. I am a wheels freak and think that the wheels can make or break a car.

Bearings would be the only thing I would suggest for this car, but it seems you have it covered already. I think at most I would put the sport tuned 540 in it. Anything faster would just be... well, you'll see.
