well thanks for all the help and advice in the last thread guys, i looked for months and unable to find a pickup at the price i wanted, was sick of going it to look at a 25k truck and then they were trying to negotiate with me a 40k truck lol.

Going to pickup a used 2005 GMC canyon, 84k miles, pioneer radio, toolbox, black, V5 engine, pretty clean. (any advice on the car overall would be great). after all said and done with taxes and stuff, it came to $10,500, paying cash instead of financing since its so low and why pay high APR for a used car.

couple of quick questions for you truck guys here too, was looking at some aftermarket stuff (YES already...)

was looking at some rims and wheels (i saw these wheels mounted they look great to me at least)

are these too "off road" treadwise for a car i want to drive onroad mostly? are they too loud? wont last long? or will they be just fine??

ive been browsing around at canyonfans.com but information there is making my ears bleed lol.

Suspension lift (to accomodate wheels like those)

Mike, Those tires should be Ok. you might get some road noise from the side cleats, but will be great traction,cleaning in the winter,OffRoad. I had an 05 also loves it,had a 5.3 sold it after 2 years it had 1,800 miles on it. O by the by nice truck

thanks good to know.. want a aggressive tire, just dont want MASSIVE road noise, i like to talk on cell and drive at same time lol.

Thoes engines have cyl head problems. I changed them stady when I worked at gm. Also seen a few seize up with no warning, one in a truck like yours and one in a h3 hummer. Both with under 70 thousand miles.

Those tires are nice but they won't last a whole long time if its mostly on road you will be driving. Noise isn't too bad till they wear down to the 'get new tires after winter' stage. I don't know what kind of money you plan on spending for a lift but lifts for these things aren't cheap either. The price falls under 'It costs quite a bit of money to make your truck ride like crap' stage of pricing. A guy I work with has less than 1500 miles on his truck after lifting and putting 38's on it(same tires you are lookin at) and put a f/s sign in it...wants a duramax now . he loves the look and doesn't mind the ride comfort decrease but the motor now lags so he wants to do the same for a duramax powered truck so he won't feel the same 'lag' he has with gas. I like the choice of tires/rims you have though but IMO I wouldn't do this to a daily driver. I have been with lifted trucks most of my life and always had something else to drive as a daily driver so I could have my toy truck. Seems that once you start modding it the maintenance starts becoming more of a frequent thing. This of course is just an opinion and think you have a great project to build. Will look great when you are done and would like you to keep us posted on its progress...by us I mean the 4x4 guys on the forum here.

Dont want to get huge wheels, might go with something like this, a bit more mild and smaller, hopefully it wont be terrible. I dont want to lift it huge either, just enough to accomodate the wheels properly and give it a good look

I put larger tires on my daily driver '98 nissan frontier. Very mild tire change, from a 215/65/15 to a 235/75/15. I have regretted it ever single time I turn the key. Any minor incline in the road results in a downshift, using the air conditioning on anything but a perfectly flat road is ridiculous. I love my truck, it has a touch under 230K miles, will probably cross over that mark next week. But I can't wait to drop my tire size back down and have my peppy little truck return.

Also something to keep in mind, part of the problem I have is going from a street based tire to an offroad based tire. 4 ply street tires (and marginally smaller) are much lighter (unsprung weight) than 6 ply offroad tires. I am sure this has a lot to do with the lack of pep in my truck (beside the taller tire issue).

Yeah, but you're driving fried rice, Mike's got himself some good ol' American muscle. It might have been built in Mexico and Canada with Taiwanese parts, but at least it's American!

ya everyone has something different with lifted trucks.. honestly i just want a 4" rancho lift, with some 285/17 tires, probably some NITTO terras. i know the V5 engine is a V8 so i plan to stay mild. thanks for input from all.. love the Car so far, except for the AC issues... which i posted here.. anyone has any ideas let me know

its probably just the resistor pack and or switch assembly. fix that first, then see if the AC is OK. with no airflow across the evaporator, you won't get cold air out.

i hope it is lol. whats weird is it was good for 2 days, now nothing.. parts on their way, hope its a easy fix lol
