Hi fellow R/C enthusiasts! New to the site and back into R/C after 15 years. Boy have things changed!

I pulled my RC10T out of the attic, charged up the old batteries and ...
it glitches like crazy and goes about 2 mph. I've been researching the newest tech and came across this great site! So here I am.

A trip to the hobby store later, with my 9 year old son in tow, he had a shiny new Traxxas Slash 4x4. I was blown away by the performance, it is really a monster. He won't let me play with it, so I'm back to my RC10T. Of course, I can't have him blowing my doors off all the time, so...

I did some research and ordered a budget brushless set up; EzRun 60A + 4000kv motor. A read some more here and I'm worried that it is too much for my old car. I guess I just have to set it up and see.

So on to my questions:

- What do I need to do get this thing back on the road? (shocks, bearing maintenance?)
- Should I do a complete tear down?
- How can I identify the tranny? I've read that a 6 gear won't handle a brushless setup.
- All electronics are being replaced, so nothing to do there.
- I want to preserve my vintage tires, which wheels and/or tires will fit? I like the look of the Slash's SC tires something like that would be cool.
- Battery selection: what's best for bashing on a budget? Nimh or Lipo? If Nimh, should I get 6 cell or 7 cell batteries?

Sorry for the barrage of questions, I feel like an R/C noob all over again, but its good to be back!

well im probably the junior member here with little knowledge but the six gear is all boxy and the stealth has more of a woman's figure all curves if you going to do brush-less and lipos i would just go for a stealth on the rebuild it will save some tears later (about half a pack latter ) as for tires check out the whats old is now new threads there are a couple of good ones in the buggy section

My 10T manual shows a stealth ! If ya want a better stealth go for the RPM transmission.It was for the 10t in the beginnin. I still like the brushed stuff Easy,Simple but most of all cost effective. Welcome To Da Site . JohnnySr

yeah, 10t's had a stealth trans, you'll be fine with the 4000kv ezrun.
you may want to clean and re-ube the trans though.

i would do a complete rebuild, polish the hinge pins and shock shafts all that good stuff.

Thanks for the responses. I found the manual online and saw that it had a stealth trans too. A couple of things that make me wonder if it had the RPM upgrade are an RPM dustcover and the trans case is black instead of white. I'll have to post some pictures to see if anyone recognizes it.

The other interesting thing is the color of the chassis. It looks like an orange factory powder coat. Are these any more valuable?

Here are a couple or three photos of the trans and truck. I was clearly halucinating when I saw a black trans case.

More questions:
- What is a good starting point for gearing with my 4000kv motor?
- Where do I buy spurs/pinions? I looked on ebay and tower, but couldn't figure out what would fit my truck

I like the narrow fronts, I always thought it handled and accelerated better with them. I'm going to take them off for bashing though to preserve the rubber (I only have one set of narrows).

Which leads me to an earlier question I didn't get answered. What current tires and or wheels will fit? Will any 2.2 tire work on stock wheels? If not and I get a set of wheels, what wheels will fit?

2.2 tires are the size so any bearinged 2.2 size buggy modern wheel should work .Im old school so check with the modern crowd like B3 B4 racers or runners.Don

Make sure you get 2.2" truck tires, not buggy.

If you are going to get new wheels and tires, might as well get a shock rebuild kit... pretty cheap.

I would just keep the spur gear you have, unless it's damaged. Any standard pinion will work, it's just a matter of figuring out what works with your motor. Sampler platters are available.

I don't know how many times I've read on this forum that RC10(x) + brushless = broken parts...I should have listened.

On my first run with my new brushless RC10T I broke a front a-arm. I was chasing down my son's Slash 4x4, he stopped, turned, then I t-boned him at full throttle. Didn't get more than 10 minutes of run time.

The cool thing is that it did about 30+ on stock gearing and the motor temp was only 90 on a 75 degree day. It sounded really cool compared to the Slash. It's really quiet and smooth.

So, any suggestions on where to get new front a-arms? I didn't see any on ebay. Looks like AE still sells them in black. I suppose I shouldn't care that they don't match if I'm just going to play and race.
