he makes Aluminum Bodys mostly all tamiya, but can & will do custom orders @ a reasnable price.

I've heard both good and bad about them. From what I understand they're not far removed from being aluminum foil.

but i would want one less zero on the thickness i wonder what the thickness of foil is

I just bought one. It is too soft.

In the image of the Monster Beetle body, is it just my eyes or the image, or are there actual wrinkles in the body?

Seems to me the only reason to go to an aluminum body is for extra strength, so making them too thin & soft seems rather pointless...

thats the reflection of the parts placed infront of the car.

these things are a waste of $$ IMHO. kinda cool for a shelfer that will NEVER see any use.

I took the reflection into account, things still looked a little wavy. Could've been the image compression...

Imagine how much fun a 1/10 scale smash-up derby would be with one of these bodies!

I thought the rather saggy-looking Lunchbox roof--and the need for supports "bonded" on the inside--pretty much said it all, strength-wise.

pretty sure this is the same guy. I havn't followed them in a while, but for what they were going for on ebay, I don't see how he could be coming out ahead considering the time it must take him to make them. This toyota build is absolutely amazing.

I thought I read somewhere they were intended for crawlers and when they crashed/got beat on the rocks they showed body damage.

On the website it says they are .008 thick. I think they are propably too fragile for most applications, but the amount of work involved is amazing considering they sell for less than $50 for a body set. I certainly wouldn't produce one unless I sold it for 5x that much. -Jeff

This is not me, this guy does incredible work, and is much more detailed than the bodies I make. I can only imagine what this would cost if were for sale, lol, more than I could afford!

Part of what you're seeing is the jpg image compression, but part of it is the body. That picture was taken when all I had was the 005, that thinner aluminum did tend to show a few wrinkles but mostly the Sand Scorcher body is really hard to make. The curvy fenders and roof on the Sand Scorcher are pretty challenging to make without having some imperfection.

Also, remember, these are all made by hand, they are not stamped out on a machine.

What your seeing there is not the roof sagging because it is flimsy, it's unfortunately again because of the hand-made nature of these. The Lunchbox roof is the last panel to go on and the side panels can tend to pull on the roof which makes it dip down a little like you see.

You would probably not want use one of these bodies without reinforcing, it would not last long, but they actually are pretty sturdy when finished and reinforced.

Over at scale4x4rc.org is a Lunchbox aluminum body with video of it rolling, it held up pretty well!

I also do have a vendor forum there and there are more pictures of guys trucks in there. These bodies are really meant for the scale guys, and they do add another element of scale.

Stew: when will you have more Monster beetle bodys for ebay?

I've been working on shifting sales away from ebay, so I don't know when I'll list another auction for a body. You can PM me or email me if you're thinking about getting a body, I don't want to try and get sales on this forum, that isn't why I joined, I hope you understand.

Oh, and by the way, I do have an RC10 nitro DS that came with the Camaro body which I painted like Jeff Gordon's Dupont NASCAR, I'll have to post some pictures! I guess it must've been about 1998 or so when I bought it.
