If its a shelf display car then an original is the way to go, if you want to run it then get a new one, there's not much difference in the relative cost as the Grass Hopper was a very popular car back in the day (had one myself) so there are plenty...

I picked up a re release rear bumper for an original car. I wasn't aware that the re release was longer. I am ready to slot the bottom holes to make it work. What have others experienced and what were your solutions for making them work?

If my memory isn't playing games with me, the first batch of re-re Sand Scorchers came with a rear bumper/cage that didn't fit, and Tamiya exchanged them for new ones for free.
(Or maybe it was the first batch of Buggy Champs that came with faulty...
