I bought a brand new in the box unassembled RC10 (and brand new Futaba radio gear) at a garage sale for X amount of money. For fun I put it together. Its in perfect shape, black chassis, all papers, perfect decals, etc. So if some day I want to race it around the yard and use it, would I be ruining something of value? I have a fair collection of scale cars (no RC cars) and such and thought this would make a cool addition. Any responses would be appreciated.

There are plenty of used RC10's out there if you want to buy one to run. If you ever want to sell yours do NOT run it. You have already lost about half of it's value by building it but you probably bought it for next to nothing, so good for you for building it. Show us some pics so we can tell you how lucky you were to find that treasure

2nd that motion. There are plenty of cheap runners for sale. A new one is a prize to me. But the great part of this hobby is that to each their own. There are projects that are not my taste but I respect the ideas and craftsmanship none the less.

New, I wouldn't run it—there are plenty of $70 RC10s out there if you want to scratch and dent. Run it and it's worth considerably less than it was before you opened the box.

+1 It is very hard to find a new built or SNIB RC10 but you could easily get a runner for less than $100. Keep it shiny and new. Just my .02

And if you want a runner, there is a relatively clean RC10 and a spare chassis on RCtech right now, in the Classifieds, for $100. Much better proposition that running a new RC10 out of the box, IMO.

You diminished it's value by over half just by building it. Running it would make it just like every other $60-$80 RC10 out there. Ultimately it's your buggy.

Post some pics, its always nice to see a new build in all its freshness.

I would keep it a shelfer, and like others stated get a used one to run / bash. Plus now that you know how it goes together, you could easily maintain a decent runner.

Another vote for don't run it. Smart move to ask the folks here. You have something special, keep it new. Pics please......

I say you increase its value by building and driving it, but I am in the minority here. None of these are ever gonig to make us millionaires, so do what you want with it.

When you can buy one of these in decent condition and get the same satisfaction out of it as the new one, why would you even think of destroying the historical value - much less the monetary value? It's only new once.

I understand what you are saying and not disagreeing, I just am not really a collector mentality (mental maybe) but if someone is more power to them. If you gave me a 1969 Hemi Cuda in plastic wrap with 2 miles on it, I would go to the drag strip.

I figure whatever I collect there is always some guy who has a better exapmle for preserving historical value so I let them worry. Now if you'll excuse me I am going to go assemble my new in box JRX2 and throw it off a cliff

Hell yes, I would do the same.

History is for youtube to look after, take some pictures, make some movies to remember it new, then race it .

You only live once and if you think in 50 years anyone is going to care about rc10's you would be wrong. It's like vintage cars, muscle cars are half the age and worth so much more. That's because everyone that was nostalgic about vintage cars is dead. Anyway that's what I think, the pleasure from driving it will be more than looking at it and you can still look at it just as well with a few scratches
