Hi, I'm (sorta) new here and I just got my first gold pan from a guy on craigslist. Thought it was more assembled than this, but oh well. Planning to turn it into a runner for general purpose fun , but it needs a LOT of work. I'll be posting more pics as the project gets rolling, but it's a bit daunting for a headfirst dive into RC. And I haven't got the slightest as to where to start...

Anyways, these are pics of the stuff after I just got it, so i'll clean them up and snap a few more.

The black arms are for a newer model.They should be white arms with longer pivot hole section.Thats why hinge pins so long in the black arms.Your missing the 6 gear trannies top shaft assembly,i have some if need it.DON

Don, do you mean the gear that slips through that hole and attaches to the pinion/spur gear? That would be great if you have one. Also, what should I do about the rear arms? Will they work, with the regular dog-bones, or should i look to pick up a set of originals arms on ebay?

And while I'm at it, anyone have tips for cleaning all the dirt off the parts? I was thinking warm, soapy water and a toothbrush, but I keep hearing about people using peroxide? Thanks!

Oxyclean powder, mixed 2 to 1 with really hot water- soak a couple of hours and rinse off.

And the later arms will work fine

the original arms off ebay will work...but those arm u have will too, with the correct hing pins. Preference of choice really hope i can help...

as for that part he mentioned pm him if your interested in his offer.

For cleaning parts I run them through a few cycles in my ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. You can watch the dirt, oil, and grease come right off the parts. So far it has worked quite well for me.

For getting things clean its just simple washing-up liquid, hot water, an old toothbrush & some good old manual scrubbing works for me.... the peroxide treatment is a process some of us have been trying to make white parts that have 'yellowed' over time, back to white again... but this has to be done after the parts have been cleaned of all dirt.

By the way, welcome to the board I look forward to seeing how your project progresses.... but be warned, this hobby gets addictive & expensive

Nevermind, the hinge pins are the metal rod between the arms and the mounts, correct? If so, I just need to know what pins will work. Thanks!

So, question... If i intend on turning this into a runner, what modern arms and axels will fit on this? it would be nice to be able to just drive to the nearest hobby shop and find the parts on the shelf if something breaks. is this even possible? thanks!
