I found the hotshot gearbox is overly noisy. I have ball bearings in the car already.

Anyone know how to make it quieter aside from being a shelf queen??

Have you verified the pinion shims are correctly placed? They are noisy gearboxes. :D

Also check the mold flashings on the side of the gears. I found that by trimming them down with a knife was enough to remove the terrible sound that was coming from the gears spinning and hitting the gear housing.
Worked wonders for me.

anytime when you have a transmission case with a bunch of big teeth gear and lots of it, you won't escape the noise syndrome. The older Tamiya kits such as Thundershot, Hotshot, Boomerang etc are known for that. Until the TA02 platform came about from the Top Force Evolution line it made a little difference. You should see the teeth on the Clodbuster, them are huge and loud. One reason for using the big teeth design was that it was less prone to stripping because these could possibly face a lot of abuse.

Also forget the standard alloy pinions. Bid them! Get yourself a steel or even brass pinion and these wont chop out like the kit pinions do.

Ive put my Super Shot through hell. Sporting a 19 Komodo Dragon, QC3 and 5000 30c lipo I gave my car the run of its life taking on some nice jumps and its safe to say without a slipper you'll have to think carefully where your throttle is on the landings- LOL! I went through two gearsets working out how to get the most from it.

It was worth the effort though.
