Project CYANide

I couldn't think of any cool names having "Blue" in it, then this one just jumped out at me...it was perfect. :)

This build began with buying some blue anodized shock mounts and a few other parts from pargu2000...but then I realized I had more than enough parts for a second Optima build, so I negotiated a deal to ship him some of my parts for him to anodize and ship back to me. This build will use blue and hop-up parts wherever possible, to improve the strength of the original Turbo Optima.

The anodizing is done, the parts should ship next week! Here's a teaser pic. The parts I shipped to Korea were sanded with 600, 800, 1000 & 1500 grit sandpaper, then buffed with rubbing compound to prep them for the anodizing. The skidplate had a few deep scratches that I couldn't sand out, but it should still look great.

WOW!! I can see why you want the blue shocks. I hope I can help you out with what I have. Man I can't wait to see that. Get a blue Javelin roll cage on that sucker.

Now there's a smurfy idea! If they made an aluminum Javelin rollcage, how cool would that look? I doubt I could ever afford one, mind you.

Smurfy...yeah, I could've called this "Project Smurf Optima" too, but that just doesn't sound bada$$ enough...

That's going to be a tough blue to match with shocks. The only shocks I've ever seen in that shade were touring shocks. Maybe you should have stripped some alu shocks and get those done with the rest.

i think it would look daft with the same colour shocks the blue AE colur would make a nice contrast .
nice job BTW would also look nice with all CF plate

That's going to look really nice and different. Some highly polished shocks might look pretty cool against all of that blue.

Maybe the Old Tamiya Dyna Storm shocks would match.

I finally received my blue Optima parts from pargu2000, including 7 pieces I paid him to anodize at the same time (among those were the belly and front skidplates). They turned out gorgeous! I can only imagine how sweet this car will look when it's finished...and the wait for all the odds & ends to arrive is painful. I can't really do anything until a belt drive and a bunch of balls/rod ends arrive!

Oh well, at least I took some pictures while I wait anxiously... 8)

I don't see a blue radio plate there! J/K. But I do see on ein SK7's B/S/T. Not sure if its quite a match, but saw it and thought of "Project Cyanide."

I was hoping to keep it a surprise, but...yep, I already got one with the rest of the parts. ;)

Front knuckles & arms done

Finally, some of the parts I've been waiting for have arrived, and work has begun!

I have 2 different makes of Kyosho Lazer blue alloy knuckles. The darker blue ones from Tower are an almost perfect fit right out of the package, but the other pair were a better color match. :P Those required some work, though...about 3mm needed to be hack-sawed off and carefully filed down from the longer posts. The dark blue pair will be spares.

Here are the completed steering knuckles mounted on the shorter Kyosho EP-10 control arms, with some nice 3mm-thread, 4.8mm alloy balls installed. The spacing for the C-hubs is exactly the same as the Turbo Optima arms, and the wheels will be in the exact same position, wheelbase-wise. The only issue is the Turbo Optima shafts that go through the control arm ends/C-hubs are about 5mm too long, but the EP-10 control arms come with round plastic spacers that made it a perfect fit.

Looking good. I'm really curious to see this build.
