Did the b4.1 upgrade now my gear cover doesn't fit. Ive tried to see if I could make something that I already have fit. But no luck. I could probably cut the shaft down, but I'm trying to avoid that. Any suggestions? for now I just run it without the dust cap.

I've had them on some of my kyosho's and not really sure what to call them besides a motor spacer. My lazer zx-r has a 1/8" motor spacer that works pretty good and I've had a lazer that had 2 of them stacked to make a 1/4" of spacing but didn't really like how the long screws went thru the motor housing. If you find something like that it will work for any motor to git 'er done. Mostly though lately I've also been choppin off motor shafts to make them fit also since I have more need for spacers and less ambition to track any more down or make some

i think he's talking about the b4 topshaft being too long for a stealth gear cover (not being able to use the plug).

If you're willing to drill a hole in the motor plate the B4 gear cover matches shape wise perfectly.

FWIW, lots of us didn't run gear covers back in the day on RC10s, because they were a pain to take on and off, and very rarely did anything ever get to the spur or pinion anyway. For me, it's 50/50 if you need it or not. On a runner, if the track is REALLY dirty, sandy or muddy, then use one. But IMO, it's not really part of the required uniform.

Three options:

1) Don't run a gear cover. It's not incomplete an it isn't the end of the world. You don't have an external diff so it's not that big of a deal.

2) Drill the motor plate for a B4 cover.

3) Use an RC10 cover without the diff adjustment plug inserted. Again, it will keep 99% of the crap away from the gears, and it isn't like there is a major need for these anyway.

Most modern tracks are sticky clay. I wouldn't run one unless there's loose dirt/sand a plenty...

Running it without the plug in sounds like the best way to go.
At least then a marshall is unlikely to get their fingers burnt by the spur if it's still turning when they go to pick the car up!
(this of course assumes you drive as badly as me and need to be marshalled several times in one race/lap!!

This is why gear covers are mandatory for sanctioned racing in the EFRA rules... not sure about ROAR but i'd be surprised if it weren't the case, for the same reasons

See if you can find a GC that fits a Hydra... that should di it. Other than that, drilling the dust cap looks like the best option

Right now I'm just running without the plug. In front of my house on the street. I have no one to race me.

Marshalls should never pick up a car with wheels or drivetrain spinning. If you want to be marshalled, get your finger off of the throttle while you are upside down.

Here's what I did:

1) Use a stock RC10 gear cover.

2) Obtain any RPM gear cover plug.

All you have to do is cut the hole on the stock RC10 cover a little larger and pop the RPM plug in. It's larger and has some depth to it which will allow for the longer B4 shaft. See pic.

I just run mine without the plug in. The track I run on is pretty dusty most of the time. I recently pulled the diff down to replace the thrust balls and the slipper assembly is as clean as it was when I took the bits out of their packets.
I think you'd have to be physically scooping dust with the rear end to get dirt in through the plug hole
