I bought a 2004 Wrangler Rubicon in May of this year. The used car dealer near my house got this in from a local honda dealer that took it in trade. As soon as I saw the color I knew I had to have it. I thought I threw a lot of parts at the rc's but my list of parts for the Jeep is getting out of hand.
I haven't even gotten around to any of the heavy duty stuff. It is very relaxing to work with the full size tools for a change. I've been spending less on rc and will be selling a few excess rc shelfers to fund more of the 1:1 addiction.
So far I have done:
SPark plugs
K&N air filter
Front driveshaft u-loints x4
serpentine belt
Wiper blades
Rubicon locker switch mod
Royal purple motor oil,
Wix large oil filter
RP trans fluid
RP TC fluid
RP synthetic f/r axle fluid change
Hella driving lights on front bumper
Hella e-code Headlight housings
hella +50 h4 bulbs
Relay Heavy Duty headlight harness
55w fog light pair under rear bumper relayed off backup lights
"BIG 3" 4g wiring upgrade
Pioneer bluetooth Radio
pioneer 5.25front speakers
5.25" dash speaker adapter plates
pioneer 6.5" rear sound pod speakers
JL Subwoofer
homemade Sub box
Kicker 5ch 700w amp
Side nerf/step bars (dorky, but great for kids getting in/out)
Bestop Safari style bikini top
Full factory soft top (craigslist!)
insta-trunk
hinge mount side mirrors for going doorless
Velcro Grab handles
Vinyl homemade shifter boot, with color matched stitching
Home made door limiter straps
Solid chrome lug nuts
used Rear tow hook
used oem Spare tire holder(snapped a stud on the original)
front floor mats
1" body lift-
performance accessories pucks
tractor supply grade8 bolts
Brown dog 1" motor mount lift w/ rubber inserts
oem rubber transmission mount.
Idler pulley
Throttle body clean-out and new gasket

ordered but not installed:
LED bulbs for dash, hvac, dome, footwell

That's quite an impressive list of items you have done to customize your ride. I don't have a jeep but I recently bought a 95 bronco and have been spending money on minor repairs the previous owner deferred. I'm gonna keep the upgrades to a minimum with a small lift so the 33's don't rub and a matching custom rim and BFG mud terrain tire for the spare. This truck is going to be used to pull my trailer of dirtbikes and trips to tahoe so I don't want to go too wild.

My brother bought an electric lime green Rubi back when they were first released and had nothing but problems with it. He broke three front outer axles that were luckily covered under warranty after fighting with the dealer. The lockers only worked when they wanted to, usually after rocking back and forth. And the stock BFG's, I think, were the worst tires he ever had. He sold it soon after doing a few mods and bought a TJ Sport for a 1/4 of the price.

Here's a pic from when it wasn't broken...note the FOR SALE sign on the spare  :

that's the green! I might have to do the color matched dash, mine is still boring black.

A welder is something I'd love to learn how to use properly, there seem to bee so many good applications for it on the Heep.

I had an 82 J10 that I sold a year ago and have regretted it ever since. Spent a ton of money and time on that thing. Also had an 89 wrangler that is missed dearly. Looking to get another jeep project soon.
I may be crazy but I think working on them is half the fun.

I have owned a CJ-7 since 1992(3 different ones) and can say from experience they love to empty your pockets.

It's a Jeep thing. :-)

If it makes anyone feel better my Land Rover has been much the same story.
And it's always made worse by previous owner's bodges! And after 37 years, it's had a fair few of those!

Here's my money pit 1987 Jeep comanche long bed original owner with 86K miles, Southern California truck. Jay Leno once said "Never sell any of your toys!" Well I'm glad I listen.

Ahh! The memories! Makes it hard to sell!!!

No rust bucket here. Not bad for a 23 year old truck.
Image
I stripped down to the bare metal on down both sides and the applied metal ready and Por-15 just to make it rust proof while it's still in this condition.

Just more stuff to do!

I thought this was an RC Jeep. Sorry to necro an old thread.

Jeep’s can certainly be a money pit, still have the 86 CJ7 I bought in 86. Mainly all the extras that really add up.
