I see losi and durango now are using aluminum. Is it more cost effective these days to do it ? Or is it the fact that The RC10's with what is old is new tech. beating out the current buggies?

I think with all of the 8th scale buggys doing so well its just more cost efective to just scale it down. and with the new Lipo's weight loss, it was a good way to add some weight.
