I'm perusing the Pro-SE instruction addendum on vintagelosi; it lists A5012 as the part number for the front and rear shock pistons.

In the exploded diagram on how to assemble the shocks however, it says that the pistons for the rear are marked "5" and the fronts are marked "4" (?)...

What's the difference?

I pulled apart one front and one rear shock on my Pro-SE, (I do NOT know if they are original)...they are both pink, with markings of "2" and "3".

To make matters worse, P/N A5012 seems to be recycled and is now no longer shock pistons at all.

the number should dictate what size holes the pistons have.

any idea what the # equates to then?

I thought Losi color coded the pistons exclusively.

I can break out my caliper and measure the pistons that were in the shocks, but all the holes looked identical despite the different number. WIll check tonight.

The number is the SAE measurement of viscious movement in a closed enviroment. Ie- damping measurement-

and they make them different colors for people that don't know their 1-2-3's.

so, this is greatly confusing.

I have some pistons that have NO numbers.

I have pistons of identical color with DIFFERENT numbers.

I thought Losi rated these things by number like #56, #60, etc. which indicated specifically the size of the holes in the pistons?

Does this mean that there can be multiple red #56 losi pistons with DIFFERENT flow characteristics based on the number stamped on the piston, even though they are all red #56??

EDIT: I went and googled, and I found the information about the three digit system (such as 5-5-6 meaning a piston that's been drilled with #55, #55, and #56 in each of the three holes). I get that.

But say I have two red pistons (which I do), one with a single "2" stamped on it, and the other with a single "3" stamped on it.. Are these NOT red #56, but rather #52 and #53 pistons?

this is why i'm an associated guy. 3 different piston, marked 1, 2, and 3. not to mention, you can visibly see the size difference in the holes.

if i was you, i'd buy complete sets of all available pistons and throw out the ones you have. you'll have brand new stuff, and know exactly what it is.

I pulled all four pistons from the car. I find it interesting that there is 1 #1, 1 #2, 1 #3, and 1 #4 ... with number four also carrying the digit six.

Maybe 1-4 is the position on the mold, and #6 indicates that they are all #56 (which makes sense, since they are red?)

If that's the case, and the instructions are to be believed, then the stock kit may have came with rear #55 and front #54's? Why else would they say to put the pistons numbered five in the rear, and numbered four in the front? It's been two decades since I bought a JrxPro SE and I don't remember what came in the box...

I am not trying to be smart. but does it really matter? you cant see them any way if the the same on both sides their fine. I use those red ones in all of my builds and have never even taken the time to looked at them?

probably just a mold number, or a date stamp. Losi pistons are all color coded, except the earliest JRX2 era ones.
