Update: I'm going to enter my spare parts sprinter in the low buck build off, seeing as I'm pretty broke right now I can't spend much money on it. I'm going to list all my parts sources and include all the prices I can which will be in the first post and I'll just edit it as I go.

So last week I was thumbing around on DODC and found this old Barts Parts sprinter that had a little pile of parts that happened to contain a new set of GPM rear RC10 arm mounts. I inquired and got the thing for a song and a dime.

There wasn't much to the sprinter other than the cage, a home made chassis plate that weighed as much as the rest of the car, the barts rear bulkhead, towers and a B3 front end.


The cage needed a little help, I've never really liked the way the barts upright cages didn't have any forward bracing and the body mounted on two little posts so I bent up and welded some front structure, which is going to keep it an upright cage, even though I contemplated converting it to a downtube car. The basket bar on the rear bumper was also broken off and long gone so I made up a new one of those.


On To the chassis. I got out a piece of Black 3mm G10 and layed some paper on it. I layed out the cage, rear suspension, front end, etc.




Cleaned up the rear bulkhead, added some JRC rear toe blocks, and bolted up a rebuilt tranny that came out of a T3 parts truck a friend of mine gave me.


bolted on the cage, and snapped on last pic. Next will be making some shock towers that have a little bit better geometry options as opposed to the stock Barts towers.

Dang, and for a minute I thought you were gonna say "I don't want it!". lol. Looking good so far! I'll have to follow this.

Okay, after dinner headed back out to the garage and cut up some more G10! After some thought and looking at the original Barts rear bulkhead I came to the conclusion that I wanted some more camber link options so I decided to cut up the bulkhead and move my camber link locations to the shock tower (I'm sure if Reggie looks at this he's gonna see where I R&D'd "ripped off and duplicated" all my rear suspension geometry!)

Little more work tonight, knocked out the front tower and started on the body fitment.

Next up is the body. The hood and tail are from Mcallister, and the side panels are carbon fiber. I had the carbon cloth laying around for a few years (unfortunately the resin is also a few years old so it's a little sticky on the back side still....) that I got from a race shop I used to work at. The were moving to the other side of the country and a lot of materials and stuff were just getting tossed so needless to say, a couple yards of carbon cloth made it's way into my truck along with some epoxy resin. I layed it up single thickness on a sheet of glass, came out pretty nice I think

oddly enough ford these always turn out to be the best builds. probably because it's different from the norm. looking real good. love the rear motor mount.

thanks guys! not sure on the body yet, might just be my standard theme which is usually red and black, or black and white. I think this one might be the later of the two. not sure how much I'm going to do tonight, I'm pretty wiped out from work today.

Okay, couldn't stay away tonight. made the other side panel and the mount for the tail tank. I'm not too sure I'm happy with the body work at this point, I might ditch the carbon and go for lexan? I tried doing some paint on the hood where the edge that met the carbon would be black, unfortunately that stuck out like a sore thumb so I trimmed up some vinyl that I had laying around and I'm still not too sure about it.... Any Opinions?

Okay, haven't had much of a chance to work on the car the last couple days until tonight. Made some decent headway though, got the body pretty much wrapped up including making the wing.

The wing slider buttons are some used Associated "wing things" that I machined a little bit to suit my needs. The Lexan is all from Tap plastics (it's about a tenth the price of buying the sheets from the hobby shop) and the wing mounts came with some other dirt oval parts I bought off DODC a while back.

This Sprinter is KILLER! It doesn't even look LOW budget. I'm not saying it isn't, but just saying that it looks like something that I'd already have alot invested in.

Got a little bit of bench time tonight, got reacquainted with one of my least favorite tasks, hunting for and polishing used hinge pins! After I found a car set of those I was able to hang the arms on the car, then proceed to the shocks. The shocks were out of my dirt oval shock/spring box, I have a few sets of blue TC3 shocks since I switched over to TC5 shocks. I did however have to put some .71 shafts in the rears. I'm not super happy with the spring clearance against the front tower so I think I might make a little G10 spacer to go between the bulkhead and the tower, the springs and oils should be a decent baseline 50wt up front with 8 LB springs, RR is 35wt with a 6 LB spring and LR is a 7 LB spring with 35wt.

Okay, finished the car up, and now it's for sale over on DODC to fund other projects!

pretty standard wrap up, made the nerf bars, dug around for tie rods, polished more hinge pins, etc. I'll let the pictures do the talking.
