i just noticed tamiya stoped all mechanical speed controls !! back in the day i never thought this day would come.. tamiya kept them in the twin motor rcs for a long time up to the new clodbuster... i liked using a msc cause escs were about $80.. now $25 gets you a esc.. im real happy with new smaller radio gear of today... escs are small and recivers are tiny.. top it all off alot of the stuff is cheap.

I agree. Stuff being cheap now is really good for newcomers, sticker shock isn't as bad. That's what use to make this a "hobby" way back when was the initial cost IMO.

people are getting into rc more then ever.. the rtr stuff is great.. back in the day id try to get people into rc .. about 10 min into telling them all the steps and money rc cost alot of people backed out... then when someone got into rc, problems got them out of the hobby.. the mechanical speed control would fail (not work, stick,exc..).. if you got an esc or reciver wet they were done, and escs were like $80 and radios were like $60.. people got fed up , next thing you know the rc was on the shelf forever.. now look at traxxas ,stampede, rustler, and bandit.. problems solved and under $200

What got me out of the hobby when I was younger was blowing one too many Novak ESCs. I'm glad there are cheaper alternatives these days (and also glad I'm not relying on mom for RC money).
When I got my vintage RC10T a couple of years ago, I tried out the MSC for kicks. It was fun in an old school way.
