I hate to follow trends but id like to get my kids off the computer and World of Warcraft (I have nothing against WOW, I love the game lol)

First question, Are there any RC company's in the US that make SC trucks? (Id like to buy from a US company if possible)

What would you guys recommend for a RTR SC truck out of what is out there, Id like to keep it as cheap as possible but have the options to upgrade later if they want to try out racing.

My son and I have had the Traxxas Slash for a while now and they are a ton of fun, relatively inexpensive and there are many places that race them. They are tough, too.

I hate to say it, but the best bang for your buck is the Traxxas Slash. They come with everything you need right there in the box, and they can take a beating without breaking parts. We have an under 16 race class at my local track, it's mostly kids between 5 and 10 years old. I watched a 5 year old kid repeatedly run his truck into the wall at the end of the straightaway at full speed, and nothing ever broke.

The HPI Blitz also has an excellent reputation as a durable RC vehicle.

I own one, I don't use it much, but I got it from a guy off eBay who was using it as the back-up for his own HPI race truck after his son decided to race stadium trucks with a T4.

He was getting rid of it because there was no point in having a "back-up" truck ... neither he nor his son had been able to break anything to warrant keeping an additional truck.

When I was researching the different SC trucks out there, it seemed to go, in order of durability:

#1) Traxxas Slash
#1a) HPI Blitz
#2-10) everything else, except for
#11) Losi Strike

Slash. We have 2 with ezrun brushless. Awsome!!!

For kids , you cant beat the slash rtr. I have an sc10 brushless and I love it , but my son has the 4x4 slash. The Slash has taken a beeting from him and never broken anything. He launched off the backside off a ramp at the skateboard park, it took a 14' drop without an issue and kept on going.

i bought one of those brushless rtr sc10's...$240.00 made in the usa..can't beat that...

Im leaning towards the Traxxas Slash, Looks to have a larger aftermarket selection and from what you guys say and what i have read it tough as nails. Should i stick with 2WD or spend the extra on the 4WD? Id like to get brushless for ease of maintenance

I keep wondering why everyone seems to be so negative on the short course trucks? I get that they are the current trend, but separate from that, I like that they look pretty realistic (one of the reasons I like vintage buggies), and they seem like they'd be fun to race - maybe not the fastest, but fun...

I think I'd be more likely to race and SC Truck than a current generation buggy...

Im not really against them, I had a bad experience at a local hobby shop / track that runs SC trucks

One day i went to the local track to see what it was about and got ignored by the shop owner and most of the people running SC trucks, I guess ill have to get a truck and plaster it with an online shop logos just so they know i did not get anything from them lol.

Heck, I don't need there to be SC trucks to get ignored by my LHS! They do that anyway You should see their eyes roll when I come in looking for tiny oil shocks to use inboard for my Hunter! They want to sell purple and blue anodized pieces to guys running brand new (bought at the shop) nitro trucks. They can't find someone else to help fast enough

I haven't been to a race in years, so I have yet to be ignored there - maybe I'll find out next Friday when I go to the local track I just found out is still in existence

sc10 brushless would be my choice for an adult but kids really should have a waterproof rc(would of been great when i was a kid)... so id go traxxas slash

I would go with the 4x4 , it already comes with the brushless. The 4x4 is great for the kids as the 2wd trucks tends to be loose in the rear and can be a little tricky until they learn throttle control.
