Schumacher Cougar Rebuild ?

Ok, I got this Schumacher Cougar in a trade, It came with a bunch of parts but i have a few questions, First is was their a sale on flathead screws??? grrrr....

First question, (5th pic down)
Three diffs that came with the car, the one on the left was in the car, anybody know what the differance is with the different looking diffs?

Second question, (6th pic down)
I have been told this car looks like an early Cougar but with a newer rear bulkhead, i have the bulkead in the 6th pic that i think is original, is this correct, also it looks like it has an extra hole in the center? is this correct.

third question, (7th pic down)
I got all the towers in the pic with the car, are they for this car? i know the white tower is a front tower but is it stock or aftermarket.

forth question, (8th pic down)
What are the white arms for? are they aftermarket?

My favourite car :) the first real car i ever owned.

The diffs, the one on the left is mms i think, the one on the right is the stock cougar one. The centre diff looks like it's for a narrow belt, not seen one like this personally, so nice.

The rear bulkhead on the car is from a cougar2, but the spare you have looks like the original from the car although it's not the earliest type i think.

The front tower looks like the stock item to me, the other 2 rear towers i'm not sure about but aren't stock to the cougar. Those arms look really interesting, certainly look like cougar items.

Left hand diff is an aftermarket MMS diff, stronger than the standard diff (the one on the right hand side of the photo) and machined so always run true. The standard Schumacher diffs could come out the mould tool non-round which made it impossible to get a smooth running transmission. The centre diff is the front diff from a Bosscat.

The bottom right tower is a Bosscat Sport tower, the top right is a composite version of the Procat rear turnbuckle mount.
Glass fibre tower is indeed the standard Cougar front tower.

White rear wishbones are WASP racing (if I remember right) aftermarket versions and are really flexible - no good for racing but sold because they were hard to break.

The rear bulkhead is the correct one for the Cougar 1, your car has the later Cougar 2 part fitted.

I had those white wishbones on my TopCat/Cougar... I was going to say that I thought that they were SRM.... but I believe SRM had something to do with WASP racing?? I thought they were rigid enough - certainly for club racing... and yes, they were unbreakable - which again made them ideal for the novice club racer that I was! :mrgreen:

The rear bulkhead on my TopCat didn't have those two ribs either side of the central 'lump', nor the notch for a battery bar... i'm not sure if this bulkhead would have carried over into the early Cougar kits or whether your 'revised' bulkhead came on all Cougar1s?

Nice car... I kept looking at this on Tamiyaclub, glad its gone to a good home :)

P.S; Would that be a polished TopCat chassis in the background.... I know the Cougar & TopCat chassis were both identical in terms of shape & screw holes etc - but I don't know if you could ever get a Cougar with the polished rather than dull silver chassis?

Thanks guys, The chassis in the background is a normal satin finish, Im actually using that chassis for the rebuild, The one on the car has one extra hole in it lol.

This is the second Schumacher car that i have got, I cant for the life of me find any needed parts for my BossCat lol, I hope this car is not the same.

The improvements to the rear bulkhead were a running change to the Topcat, a sort of mk.1.5 bulkhead, I have examples of both styles on my NIB / NB cars. There are also at least three variants of front bulkhead and two rear hubs from the Topcat/cougar1/2 /procat era.
