I need help.

My Lazer ZX is proving to be a basket case.

I have no experiance with the Lazer series ...The ZX i got has no slipper, pressure springs or plates. I thought it wasn't original arrangement but didn't worry till the re build happens. I was advised by Bormac that the ZXR Hyper Slipper is rare and i should get it as vintage-Kyosho had 3 in stock. So i thought im all good. The problem i have is the Kimbrough spur gears i have don't line up 100% in the slipper plate.

Does this mean i have to use Kyosho spurs???? or is there somthing else i can use.

Any advise please???????

When you say that the gear doesn't line up wit hthe slipper plate do you mean:

1. The gear isn't centered on the shaft? - whch means you need a small bearing/bushing inside the gear.

or

2. When everything is assembled, the pinion isn't lined up with the spur gear? - The optima mid came with a motor spacer. I don't recall if the lazer needed one aslo.

Lemme guess - the holes to mount the spur don't line up with the holes in the spur?

Kyosho spurs are not the only spurs that fit, but you might need spurs made by a Japanese company...

The Lazer ZX has the same set up on the spur gear as the MID according the Lazer ZX instructions.

The spur gear doesn't line up in the mounting holes and the closest holes that do line up ( very close) the spur is not centered to the shaft.

I need to get on top of this.

Have odered a New Kimbrough on its way but im sure it's the same.

ok, based on the picture of the slipper in you other thread, I assume that there are 2 pressure plates (inner and outer). If so, can you use the outer slipper plate fron an rc10 and then just use a different size bearing on the inside? The outside diameter should be 8mm but the inside depends on the diameter of the shaft. Using the assocated part will allow you to use the kimbrough and other common spurs.

You need a spur that fits the holes, and if the spur is made for taking an imperial-sized bearing in the middle you need a spur gear adapter as made by HPI, Associated, and several other manufacturers.

I'll check this afternoon which spurs may fit aside from Kyosho spurs...

Checked mine tonight too and it seems these slippers were designed to carry the kit spur which should be 100 tooth. The I.D. is a perfect match as are the screw mounting holes.

The slipper is made for LA-2 88 tooth 0,6 module or the TM-7 wich is the 100 tooth 48 pitch.
and yes they have a smaller hole in the center then ass/robinson type of spur.
Should be an really easy task for any machinist to make an new outer slipper plate with the correct dimensions or just an sleve to fit over the bearing. Remember that the screwholes are not alagined perfectly due to metric.

Btw www.rwracing.co.uk sell 100 tooth 48 pitch spurs machined and absolutly true.

Should work if it wasent for it backwards compared to the kyosho slipper witch means.

When you take the slipper "pad" it has its guide on the inner section and associated has its guide on the outer section.

But you can use the associated pad on the kyosho slipper it cost like 3 bucks instead of the 12-15 that the one from kyosho costs. I run those i bought a couple or should i say that Al bought them for me and shipped them to me since it was cheaper to get 4 associated pads from usa incl shipment then buy 1 pad from kyosho sweden.

Well if you use an AE outer slipper hub, then you will need to find/machine an inner bushing to accommidate the SAE outer hole size, and the metric smaller shaft size. I think you might be better off looking for a Schumacher outer slipper hub (from the bosscat through the cat 3000 line). They have 8mm metric inner bearing bore (which will be easy to match to layshaft) and have an SAE outerlip and mounting holes for the Kimbrow style gears. The only thing you might have an issue with is whether the inner hub on the Hyper clutch will fit inside the Schumacher unit. The Schumacher inner unit has a 33.9 mm inner bore for the pad area. This is defferent than other slippers, as it overlaps its counter part., But if the back portion on the Hyper clutch is less than 33.9 mm you should be in luck. -Jeff

Yeah the schumacher slipper there is an thread here where an guy adapted his schuie slipper to fit an lazer.
Funny with the schuie slipper is that the it has the right bearing to fit the associated type of spur but the screw holes are alaigned in metric If I dont have it all wrong there is an optional plate to make things right.

Othewise there is an plate that you use instead LA-118 i use that it make things just easier can be a bit hard to find but its possible there is also another plate that can be used but i dont have the right part number for that i´ll will have to check and see.

I'm the one who put the Schumacher slipper on the lazer . And the holes on my slipper fit Kimbrow/Robinson style spurs. -Jeff

Nice build loooked really nice.

If one take the Q.C slipper gears or what the heck they are called from schumacher they do fit regarding bearing ie large hole but they are not quite right in dimension between the screw holes it does fit with other brand of spures since i tried with an old grey losi.

Shall scan the manual from my c2000 ecs.
Because if idont remember it wrong there was an option plate wuth the right distance between the screw holes.
