Hey all

can someone lay out the chronology of vintage Schum shocks please? I am completely lost... old silver shoclks... varishocks... proshocks... metal... plastic...

The icing on the cake would be if someone could tell me what the cougar2 team's shocks are

Old silver shocks(cat, xl, xls, topcat, cougar, procat, shotgun)
Silver bottom loaders(procat se, bosscat, bosscat team, cougar 2, cougar 2 team, cougar 2 race, storm)
Pro hard coated bottom loaders(bosscat works, cougar 2 works, all 2000 models and later)
Red anodized bottom loaders(all club 10 models)

Some of the club 10 models came with plastic vari shock bodies (U1272 short-front) & (U1274 long-rear)

The pro shock bodies were metal (U1360 medium-front) & (U1361 long-rear)

The "varishock" comes from the adjustable pistons used I think. So depending on the pistons used they would either be "varishock" or "non-varishock".

And yes the silver bottom loaders are more of a goldish color. Smartypants.

Cougar 2 team may be red (third from right) to match the red chassis.
These were also found on the Bosscat Sport, some Club 10's and the Nitro 10 mk3-Panther

The red shocks look as though they used the same part number as the vari shock, i have two different Club 10 manuals

one manual shows

What was the reason behind the transition from top loading to bottom loading? I notice that all of my modern shocks are bottom loading, but remember that all of my old shocks (bitd!) were top loading. The modern design seems to have foregone the diaphragm seal at the top in favour of some kind of foam or umbrella seal at the bottom, but from my small sample set this hasn't resulted in a more reliable, leak-free operation!
