With all kinds of things going on across the globe I am wondering what people consider to be vintage.
For years there were vintage races being run in the U.K. and Japan and now also the USA and Australia. Obviously things are going to be a little different in other regions but it would be good to hear some points of view on what you consider to be vintage for racing.

I personally think that "classic' is 1984-1987, "vintage" is 1988-1995, and "retro" is 1996-1999- "late model" from 2000-2004 and then modern-

I was just trolling Ebay....I can tell ya, B2 and B3 are NOT VINTAGE!!!! Sorry, but honestly, some of these RC resellers/kit strippers are retarded!

To me vintage is anything older than 2000.

It's kind of hard for me to pin down. You'd never look at a 20-25 year old 1:1 car and call it vintage. But this hobby didn't really get going until the 80's - so the time table could be compressed a bit I suppose. The cars starting around 1996 or so don't do much for me. They are generally too refined, too "perfect" and I can't really look at them as vintage. Prior to that I guess is where I start thinking in those terms. Anything from the 70's makes me think "antique".

I think "vintage" depends on your perception of the hobby based on your age. Basically what you were into as a kid or whenever you first got into the hobby. For me it's mid 80s, but if you were in at the very beginning that would seem like new stuff compared to what you started with. I would say 1980-85 though if asked to give a straight answer.

I think Reggie has it pegged. I started in early 90's with an o.g. blackfoot and then a Cadillac RC10. I'm not as old as some of ya farts...so something vintage to me might be slightly different. But a vintage B3 on eBay....come on mannnnnn!

My definition of vintage is purely based on age. 20 to 25 years plus is what I consider vintage. "Vintage" certainly doesn't imply greatness or quality; vintage crap is still crap...it's just old crap now.

Vintage is something that isnt new, but not quite as old as a antique.

VONATS in CT currently define it as 94 and earlier.

My definition of vintage: 1st Gen T-Maxx. LOL! But seriously, If you're less than 20 years old, that's probably vintage.

I would say anything pre-1985.

Yeah, I think "vintage" is too broad a term (and often misused on eBay etc to sell stuff). For racing, I think older models should be broken into different classes.
For example, I have a Traxxas TRX-3 and a Tamiya Sand Scorcher - both arguably "vintage", but the TRX-3 would thrash the Scorcher and it would hardly be fair to race them together.

I would say that up to -86, then -87 to -90 and -91-94 a four year interval. The RC development is connected to the WC cycles.

I look at vintage stuff depending on parts availablilty. If it's old enough that parts are extremely difficult to find parts or you have to search for them I would say it's vintage. If parts can be found easier, but you can't just go to the LHS to buy them then it's classic. Something like an Eddinger is vintage and a b2 is classic. A b3 is on the fence for me. It's the last model before the current lineup, but not all parts are made for it unless you go with a different brand.

I have to say that your recommendations for classes appeals to me Lars.
