I am really weak when I stumble on carbon tubs; though I have no Lazer (currently hunting one and possibly some hop-ups), I lately grabbed this little beauty for a bargain. Not too long ago I was also able to buy another ComCom carbon tub for the Yokomo '93 YZ-10. These two plus the RC10 and RC10T versions I already had pretty much make the whole ComCom tub collection available BITD if I'm not mistaken. I was very happy the battery holders came with the chassis as these are the only parts (together with the motor plate) that Fibre-Lyte doesn't carry on any longer. So the plan is to grab a Lazer ZX or ZX-R (I must admit I'm a bit lost with the differences between all the Lazer versions, which one should I go for?) in good shape, buy the missing carbon bits and bobs from Fibre-Lyte and build it of course! If you have any spare hop-ups for the Lazer series of cars, drop me a PM, I might be interested. Any suggestions, ideas and opinions are welcome as well, I'm not sure about the direction this one should go.

There was a YZ10 Works 94 chassis, cougar 2000 as well, oh yeah and Tomy intruder. Not sure if all of these were made by COM COM though?

EDIT: Forgot to say that is a great looking tub and looking forward to the build!

Thanks! I have that COM COM Works '94 chassis as well. I have never seen the Tomy Intruder one so far, no the Cougar 2000 by the way. I know I have seen several carbon tubs for the Top Cat/Cougar, but I'm pretty sure these were made by another company.

Nice you got the YZ10 '94 tub too. What you planning on doing with it?

Nice one! Well, the YZ-10 tub came as a roller, but a lot of parts need to be replaced and it's still sitting in vintage dust, I'll try to take pictures of it. I plan to fully restore it one of these days... lol

Really? Where are you from and how come you designed this particular chassis for COMCOM? Did you also design the other tubs for them? I am literally in love with these carbon tubs, so well done! Can we have more info about your involvment in the COMCOM company?

I have no plans for it right now, besides finding a nice used Lazer and build a complete car around the chassis, maybe with some hop-ups... I actaully won a nice one last week on eBay UK, but the seller didn't want to ship across the pond and although I gave him Mark's (Synergy) address in the UK, the guy was still stubborn and paranoid and ended up selling the car to the second winner. It was a really nice one with low run time. The price was a real bargain at less than 60£ too, BUMMER Anyway, I'll eventually find a better one.

Im from the UK in Surrey. In 1991 Jason Green (worlds qualifier 1987) stood on my ZX whilst marshalling and wrote off me esc and servo plus top deck so was a bit annoyed and thats what gave the idea for the tub chassis. Fibrelyte then took my hand drawn design and idea and made the first tub chassis which was with six cell holes in to lower the cells weight. I also had a design on file with zero cell holes and various companies bought these and sold on. I should have copy righted my design.

Nice story James, I hope you don't blame me for owning one. Do you have pictures of a carbon tub with six cell holes?

Me blaming you, no way. In fact I am quite proud that my design is still out there and being used for what I designed it for.

Unfortunately I lost all my pictures of my RC cars which is rather gutting but the chassis had the cell holes 5mm further in towards the centre of the chassis and a further 5mm further forwards as well. I found when using 1400 SCR and then onto 1700 SCE cells the weight was better lower down so the holes were cut out. Anyway Craig Harris and Dave "Big Air" Belsten should remember it, that is if you ever see them and ask. Got me 5th in the indoor champs in 93/94. I used this up to 1999 before I sold it. Shell lasted ages due to the chassis and I never broke anything again due to the strength it gave.

Hopefully one day I can at least get one decent one as I am going to run it. Still if you or anyone else is up for it (I guess not if your in Belgium) later this year after the nats I am planning a vintage event in Surrey around Slough so may be a good excuse to give the old beast a good run.

As were talking of designs I thought I would show you the new spur gear available from RW racing in the UK.

My design was simple, I wanted a spur gear that we could use on the Lazer ZX and both version slippers of ZXR.

I kept the 12 ball holes for the third diff on the ZX which I occassionally still use and opted for designing in the B4 slipper pad hex. The ZXR mk1 version slipper pads are non existant hence why I went down this route so if like me you want to use the ZX slipper system all you need do is keep the steel circular plates (in picture) and add the slipper pads from the B4 and sandwich together and it works like a charm.

The Mk2 slipper requires the SC10 extra torque pad (I based the design on this before it was released) as there is more of the pad so will suit this slipper clutch.

The hyperclutch is just add two screws and screw through any of the twelve holes.Hope this is of use to you guys, at least now we dont have to worry about damaging our spurs or searching high and low for slipper pads.

So I already gathered some NIP parts and a donor chassis for this project. I have a pretty good idea where I am going now. It will take time as I still need to order some parts from Fibre-Lyte and might go for some custom anodising on all the aluminum parts.
