Mr Lanes What TOO Much Idle Time & a sick mind can think up

I have always been thought of as a little off - but I think it is the rest of you who need help! :mrgreen:

But you can judge for yourselves - as I post pics of what I believe to be "my sane" thoughts, made into reality, that others thought I had just lost a few more marbles on.

"And I see 15 of you looked while I was at dinner, you know who you are and I do not! The rest here will never have any idea what I am talking about. It will be our little secret."

On to the business at hand:
First offering goes back to the early 90's when I started doing some Dirt Oval racing out in Highland. This lead me to make a mold for the RoadKill Outlaw dirt oval truck body. After racing dirt oval locally for awhile I went to a JG Dirt Oval Race in Bakersfield, Ca. Had a great time and decided I was going back the following year for some more. But reality was sunking in after this first race and I understood that my winning an upper main race was not very likely. :( So what does a model making R/C guy do, to get a trophy?

Concourse of course - so a few weeks before the race the little gray cell firings in my skull took shape as a scratch built aluminum tub cage interior that fit into my RC10 with some RC10T tube parts thrown in - RoadKill truck Conversion. 90% of this is scratch built, out of material laying around the shop of make body patterns, Gauges, camera and other graphites were done in corel draw and thin printed on our HP Laser Jet 3P. Gauges were turned out of plastic rod stock, seat is a .035" piece of sheet aluminum, driver is a rubber wrestler toy re shaped with and exacto, body panels making up interior is .020" styrene. Shift light is a red LED that was wired to a aaa that would light up when connected and I believe the drivers head is a Tamiya piece - maybe out of a frog or? A few details of the construction and some of the materials used.

It is a little worn now, but still fun to look at and remember the crafting of it.

I did get first place that year with the truck and interior. Interior fit over a six cell pack and all the electronics, because to keep the trophies all cars entered had to be able to race as entered in the concourse judging. After four or so laps I pulled it off the prepped for my next race - the Z main I believe it was. Hope you enjoy this small offering.

Working on taking some current pictures for you guys, most of which will be of cars in boxes with their guts all over the place. Which for some of you will be what you want to see anyway.... 8)

I will be looking for and taking pictures of the Detroit car - Team Truck we made - Optima car pictured above - RC10 tube racer and what ever else I can dig up.

Also I have started an A&L question answer thread in the "off topic / chet- chat" heading if anyone wants to comment or ask me something. Management reserves the right to say "I do not remember or I have no recalculation of that fact".

Ok time for a couple more pictures. Also Please Note all these pictures are of the cars and trucks as they currently sit on the shelves.

This is another custom hand built 2WD car build around the time of the Worlds in England (UK) in the early 90's.
After awhile this became my weekly racer in 2W stock class for a couple of years at Breakaway Raceway and other local So Cal tracks. Really want to get this cleaned up and back in running condition!

* Hand cut custom Graphite Chassis with 1/2"x1/2" 90 graphite side stiffeners. Also used for mounting the body with Velcro.
* Body is a cut down Proline with servo typed on flat lexan sides
* A&L Lethal Weapon tranny, A&L Trailing arms, A&L BB Bellcrank Steering
* Hand cut front blockhead, suspension arms & shock tower

These are some pictures of a every dirty A&L Custom Team Truck Chassis I have had in an open box in the rafters of the Garage. Sorry for the dirt - will clean off for some more shots later.
Time frame on this was early 90's and also turned out that the first big race it ran was the same race Associated daubed their new RC10T they had three at the race we had two. Western Off-Road Championships Florida. Forget the exact year, believe Cliff got first Brain running for us and Proline got third or second? too long ago...

* AutoCad designed chassis hand cut out of .125" 20 degree kit up blank, on router table and Port-a-cable 3/4hp router. Using high speed carbon steel 4 flute .125" bit. This is how we cut all our custom Graphite pieces.
* Top plate .060" same as the chassis
* Front and Rear Shock towers the same
* A&L Lethal Weapon, Steering, Trailing arms
* Mip universals for ??
* Front arms? ones on the truck now are RPM Kyosho arms do not remember what I used in the beginning?
* Front bulkhead Kyosho Ultima
* Body was the A&L Slam it Low in custom team colors.

Top photo is a pro shoot we had done for adds - unfortunately we were never able to put the truck into production..

Yes the Batteries were a pain to secure in the trucks we eventually changed to another method - just cannot recall at the moment.

RC10 Aluminum Tube Chassis car - with a little bit of personalization by Daryl. I just cannot leave anything alone..:)

This was my most driven car for club racing and big local events, always worked well and never broke any parts!

Hand built cars are fun, attention getters and unique, but they broke a lot.
