i've picked up a couple of belts in 3mm HTD to try and split in two, from SDP-SI. I'll have to post the results I get.

SDP-SI also sells GT2 2mm belts, which from what I can tell on the internet, are interchangeable with HTD, ie, an HTD pulley will work with either. I also noticed that they have 3mm wide belts. You can probably pick up a drop-on replacement right from them for the 2mm pitch system. it's worth taking a look, the company is located in NY, I paid less than 5 bucks for shipping, and a 504mm long 2mm pitch 3mm wide GT2 belt is around 4 bucks. Not sure exactly how long of a belt you need, they have almost every tooth count.

I got my belts in yesterday. The belts look great, I now have to devise a jig to slice them in half. I was also wrong on shipping. it turns out there was a 4 dollar charge for handling and the damn shipping was 12 bucks. So half the order was shipping, and half was the price of the belts. So I'm a little miffed about that, but if I can successfully slice the belts in two, I will have picked up 2 sets of belts for around 28 bucks. Not bad. Also, I picked 9mm belts, so when I'm done, I should have 4.5mm belts, slightly wider than a stock belt, which should be stronger.

When it comes to SDP, the shipping price at checkout is NEVER the shipping/handling they charge. I think their S&H policies suck, but they're the only ones who have hard-to-find small moving parts like belts, chains, gears, etc. So, we're stuck...

yeah, it appears so. I have mentally bookmarked this so I'll be sure to make my order totals such that the parts are worth more than the shipping in the future. this was my first order with them. Easy internet ordering, just sucky S+H policy as you said.
