The sewer system in our street got overwhelmed and decided to seek shelter in my basement

OMG!!! Is the city/town etc. going to cover the repair and replacement - and rehabilitation of your house?? My wife would die, she can barely stand it when I have to bring the plunger in from the garage... I think we would be forced to sell our house and move..

The whole floor is cleaned up already (been working hard). Once the rain stopped the wather pulled out quickly and only left a layer of about acm of black deposit.
The permanent damage and stink is limited, just a big hassle.
No intervention from the city but I'm getting things sorted with the fire insurance: wallpaper, paint, gyproc walls, dryer, washer, storage closets.
Some of my rc stuff got destroyed: some was floating around before I took the pictures. Original boxes and manuals, ESC's, servos,receivers, battteries... but most other stuff is just dirty and stinky = still usable.

Wow! That's a shame. Is this a basement or main floor of your home? Is the floor concrete? It's cool that you are so calm about it though. I hope the insurance will help cover your rc gear as well, though it's hard to place a value on some of it,

It's the basement; has a storage room and laundry room in the front which are tiled but further quite rough. The rear; my hobbyroom is tiled and finished to the same standard as any other room in the house.
It could have been worse: if the wather had gotten higher and into the electrics, or if I didn't have the insurance.
I'm taking it 1 step at a time: the biggest concern for now is getting the washer and dryer fixed asap. Cleaning and drying in coin-laundry machines is not something I'm willing to keep doing every weekend

Sorry for your luck, but the timing is weird. Our house got struck by lightning last Sunday and it fried the whole electrical system. Small attic fire, but I caught it quickly so damage was minimal. The biggest mess is that several walls will be coming out and new wiring ran. We were VERY lucky that the house didn't burn down. According to the fire dept and insurance adjustor, by all rights it should have burst into flames. Thank god for blown insulation!!! Luckily I had put off switching to cheaper homeowners insurance! We're in a nice 2 bedroom hotel room with a kitchenette indefinitely. I'm sure I'll get bored and post a more in depth thread. I don't want to jack your "build" with any of my problems. You won't hear me complain. Just turn the news on one time and you'll be counting your blessings. There are those much worse off, but I know what you mean, it's a huge PITA!

P.S. I'm actually living the good life! More on that later though...

I am sorry to hear of your misfortune. And I thought my basement flooding with water was bad.

In todays world there's always someone somewhere, correction: lots of people everywhere, who have it worse than yourself. I didn't mean to complain putting up this thread, just chit chat and start up the mandatory MMV thread though I didn't have anything to put in yet.
(Mudskipper is a joke: I'm not building anything along those lines... probably)

bummer. the sump pump is a great idea for water seepage though the fondation but for sewer back ups the best is a back flow on the main sewer line out side the house.

Awwwwwwww Erik, that is some really bad news. I hope it doesn't stink too much after cleaning it all...
