I thought the fumes were toxic when those caught fire? I know I wouldn't be casually standing around like those people.

And yet, in this country, you get called a pussy for using a LiPo sack..... go figure.

Charging in a LiPo sack should be a requirement at indoor tracks. That is if its not already?

Meh, no biggie... Captain Lou Albano made quick work of it.

It was in a LiPo sack, too. My question is, why was he holding it during charge? Batteries just don't explode for no reason. I'm betting it was shorted in the sack, he crossed the wires, or he plugged it in backwards. To do that to a ROAR-approved LiPo, you REALLY have to try to screw something up. 99.999% of the time when something like that happens, it's operator error.

Another reason I'd rather not pit indoors if I didn't have to. I know I'm confident that I know what I'm doing, but you never know what the idiot next to you is capable of—LiPos or NiMh batteries.

According to the comments: "The battery was taking a funny charge, and the guy holding it at the time decided to put it in a lipo safe bag just in case."

Funny that I just ordered a pair of LiPo charging bags yesterday

NiMh cells popping aren't funny either. It's like a shotgun going off plus shrapnel from a grenade = ouch if you happen to be in the immediate vicinity. Luckily, the only times I've been around for something like that, the owner was able to get the cells out of the car and throw them outside... where they exploded.

ive had a few lipo fires. they are wicked when multiple cells fail but its easy enough to contain with a sand drowning. its amazing how much can be prevented by simply being thorough and eagle eyed though

You never know how that battery has been treated. You see many people asking how fast or what the fastest they can charge a lipo is. I always err on the side of caution. I charge no faster than 1/2C. The battery never even gets warm. Every 5 charges I balance it. I also double check to make sure I have the charger set to lipo mode. I think this is one thing that many people that have problems get wrong. If the battery every starts charging in a weird way, the only way to attempt to charge it at that point is very slowly over many hours and only in balance mode and even then it needs to be monitored and it's temperature watched. I do use a lipo bag but have never even had a battery get warm so it's really nothing more than insurance.

see now i balance charge every time, i made the mistake of getting onyx 230's so i use stand alone type balancers but you can bet i balance every pack every time.

even though most packs can now be charged above 1c i dont see the reasoning. a theoretical hour is fine with me.

yeah thats where i spotted the video also, was worth a post on 10talk as an eye opener, i have never personally seen one go up like this battery did.
