Traxxas SRB... Stadium Racing Buggy

I think it's about time I post my Traxxas build here

I'm working on an unlimited buggy like the ones in LOORS and TORC
build with Traxxas parts instead of just buying a Losi XXX-SCB
Image

Image

I'm calling it the Traxxas SRB after the Vintage SRT I'm using for parts

Have a look at the prototype chassis
It's made of alloy but the finished chassis will be 3mm G-10 fibreglass with 5mm G-10 front and 3mm rear shock towers

And a custom Rollcage
Image

Image

I modelled my cage after the Losi SCB and I did think about getting one, but it looks to narrow
My cage will be around 4" wide

The fibreglass sheets are ready to be cut out
Image

Chassis and tower cut out, only need a bit of sanding
Image

The chassis plates and towers are done

but theses still a few things left, before I can drive it

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

It's a roller
Image

I handmade a ball-bearing supported bell crank
Image

Image

Does this look familiar
Image

I need longer front arms mounted with the Pro-Line inline steering,
that means, custom front arms
Image

I want an alloy motor-plate so I need to do a bit of milling on the gearbox
besides, I can't find my original SRT gearbox

Still need to:
Redo the bulkhead

Weld the roll-cage

Sort the electronic

Nice 8) . Been watching these buggys become a little more popular, and then a little more popular, and then a little more popular. Been waiting for the other major manufacturers to jump on this bandwagon. I'm likin your build Morten...keep us posted on it.

I think that these buggies will be VERY popular - as popular as SC trucks??? Probably not because they're a bit harder to drive and you have the 'exposed wheel thing' which won't appeal to all SC folk...

This build looks really good and I'm anxious to see how it progresses!!!!!!

AND to see if/when Traxxas jumps in with a RTR!

Thanks guys
This should be easier to drive sins it lags the "parachute" body

And I just ordered the 6069-00 front inline steering hub as well as some other parts for this buggy

Stay tuned

"Small" update

17mm hex
Image

Image

Need to fab a custom shaft , the proline inline hub uses 1/4" bearings and the 17mm hex is 5mm
Image

RPM gear cover and Rustler drive shafts
Image

I made the custom front axle, and the 17mm hex fits perfectly now
but the plastic links have to go bye bye
I need 3 or 3,5mm turnbuckles with heavy duty rod ends

Image

Image

Image

Nylon plates and Tie-Rod links mounted
Image

Got the C on the right side and mounted the link in front so the hub doesn't rub
Image

Image

Image

Got my old lathe cross table modified for the drill press
So I can remake the bulkhead
Image

LOL you should see my work table and the parts storage at work  It's SPOTLESS,
My hobby room is a 230 square foot workshop crammed in to an 8'x12' area

I hate moving

Next ...Rollcage

Nice custom job but since you're going for scale... I have to be honest: I think those wheels are way too big for the wheelbase.
With the re-re of the fast attack vehicle by tamiya you could get yourself some much closer scale appearance wheels and tires.

Well scale look and race performance
I do have a set of FAV wheels and sand scorcher tyres, and they are perfect for 1/10th scale, this buggy is closer to 1/8th

I checked the rules for Pro Buggy wheel and overall size

Tyres 35" x 10,5" tyres = 110mm x 33mm
Wheels 17" x 9" = 54mm x 28,5mm

My wheel base is 335mm, like the Slash and Losi xxx-scb

I do think that the Jconcepts J82 front wheels & tyres will look allot better
Do you know of any other 2,2" tyres that are 110mm high with a realistic thread ?

Alloy motor plate done
Image
The Idler shaft is hollow so I simply screw a bolt in to the plate to hold it in place, you can see where the bolt will be
