Hey guys, I picked up an RC10T2(I think...) and need some help and advice. My truck has a Trinity Midnight motor and its got a 23 tooth pinion on the stock trans(stealth). The motor seems to be hitting the trans housing, is there a smaller pinion I could put on to boost some bottom end? Is there a bigger spur gear? I have a 13 tooth pinion but it wont engage the spur gear. Also, I am looking for front spindles, is there a newer set that will interchange? I will post some pics later, thanks in advance.

yes, you can pick up a pinion in practically any hobby shop or online store, in any number of teeth you want.

more than likely, the pinion is a 48 pitch gear. The spur is also 48 pitch, and those are also available in many places, a typical on-road spur with a bunch of holes should fit just fine on the slipper assembly.

I would figure out exactly which model you have, and find the manual. rc10.com has all the manuals you need if it's an associated truck. the discontinued area is where you need to look, such as this:

http://www.teamassociated.com/manuals/discontinued/

from the manual, you can find part numbers for any of the items you are missing. for a T2 and front spindles, you can find them online and on ebay fairly easily.

good luck, and post some pics!

Thanks, but my trouble is not finding a pinion, its that the motor hits the trans and will not allow the pinion to engage the spur gear. Is there a safe way to clearance the trans? Is there a way to "clock" the trans mount? Is there a different mounting procedure or what not that will move the motor closer? Can I trim the nose of the motor can? This buggy should scream, but its as slow as a fart dissipating in an elevator right now. Its not much to look at now, but I will post pics later today with the new T4 body I shot last night.

Edit: The gearing is 84 spur;23 pinion. Is this high for this trans? I have dealt with Traxxas and Kyosho with 11/54, so I have no reference.

first, is, check the motor screw holes in the endbell. there are 2 sets, and it's possible you used one hole from one set, and one hole from another set. along with binding, it will prevent the motor from sitting where it is supposed to and can cause misalignment.

otherwise, I'd think you would be able to use an 84/23 combo....post some close up pics and we can straighten you out.....

I know what you mean, with a 81 tooth spur and a small pinion my motor contacts the case as well.

Try a 87 tooth spur gear with a bigger pinion. Basically you are getting the punch you want by using a bigger spur rather than a smaller pinion.

Hope that helps.

Got the trans issue sorted. I am just not used to the gear ratios in this buggy as compared to the others. Thanks guys. Now on to fix my front spindles.
