The steering on my original gold pan has some slop in it. I've read that there was an old trick of using a zip tie to help tighten up the steering. However I can't find too much information about how to do it exactly. Anyone doing this that can explain, or better yet have a photo?

oh and both those are overpriced a bit, wait and search for better prices on them.
A&L - Daryl lane re-made steering kits also that were way better too and he sells them on the forum here.

This will also fit. You will need the screws/posts, tube/nut, and spring, but you can get the parts numbers for those in the manuals for RC10DS, RC10T2, and later RC10GT models, which are on the Associated website.
These will also fit, if you turn the servo 90 degrees. They are from the RC10B2/B3/T3.
