Best nimh battery?

What is the best nimh battery? I'm looking for a preassembled pack that's 7 cells and preferably at about 3000 mah. I don't have the money or means to run a lipo, so what brand will give me the best battery life and run time for the least cost?

Ive heard that lipos are fairly affordable (for the cheap ones anyway), but they arent going to work with my older speed control.

Hi Dave
I think this thread has most answers to your questions

Otherwise, just ask and we'll do our best to convince you not to go 7-cell nimh

The best Nimh battery is a retired one.

I bought 4000mah 30c hardcase Lipos for $18. They have worked great all summer. They will work fine in older speed controllers. 7 cell batterys are 8.4v and 2c lipos are 7.4. There are good balanceing Lipo chargers for cheap.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. The only things that I still have to question are if lipos will work with a vintage Novak T-1 speed control and newer Reedy 17 turn motor? Then, if a lipo can work with the above setup, what lipos will be the best for the least amount of money? And also if a lipo can't be used with my setup, again what Ning brand makes the best batteries? I'm looking to spend anywhere from $25-$30.

Lipos will work just fine with the T1 and brushed motors. Here's my thread on my move to Lipo, which shows exactly what I bought (it's all very reasonably priced). I'm never going back

I mean, I know, you have to READ it to get your answer... it can be painful... but it's worth it... give a man a fish blahblah

I run lipo batteries through old esc's with no issues. The old esc's do not have lipo low voltage cutoff though so you either need to purchase a separate cutoff or an alarm. A simple alarm that alerts you that you should stop running is as low as $5 and a cutoff as much as $25. I got a lipo charger (that also does other battery types) for $45. A lipo battery doesn't have to be expensive. You can get soft case lipos for as little as $15 for lower mah models or a decent hardcase with a higher mah for about $30. Obviously certain brands can cost upwards of $100 or more but I find them unnecessary. I'm not going back now!
