Wow! Rob you are back! Great article, never seen this one before-thanks!

I actually saw one of these back in the day at a track but the guy didn't run it. Needless to say there were a lot of disappointed teenage boys.

I had one when they were current, it was disappointing!

The motor mounted up high, odd battery placement, terrible shocks, and a body that only a mother could love made me want to have a couple on the shelf when i started collecting. I sold them long ago, and miss them dearly. I wouldnt mind re-adding one to my new collection. Good memories of a bad car, if that makes sense!

I've recently built and done a few mods to mine but also paid particular attention to certain areas of mine which include the dampers. I have them working well enough but I can't see them holding up too well out on the race track.
It is obvious to see how these cars didn't really take off back in the day when compared to what was around back then.

In the heat of competition they would have lacked reliability and possibly performance which no doubt turned racers away from them.

Even still, they are a part of the history of days gone by and certainly looked the part. I like the car, not for it's outstanding performance but because of what could have been with a little perseverance. I am proud to own one today and when it is ready for duty it will be called upon when some track time can be set aside for this special piece of history.

That might explain why the gentleman did not want to run his out on the track, but I still remember looking at that review and thinking how cool that car was. Would be cool to own a piece of R/C history like the Coyote.

great article! You never get technical with articles these days, writers cant be troubled with tooth counts and bearing sizes- its all about the color of the prepainted body and top speed. I miss the good old days!

eBay got me. 2 finds today, one was a nib fwd coyote i just couldnt pass up. I wouldbhave rather had a 4wd but i figure most people thought that way making this one a little more rare lol! My friend had the rwd one growing up so it will be a fun little trip back in time

The Coyote's are almost all the same and from the factory I think they altered the top suspension arms up front for the RWD car to give the front more caster. Aside from this they just removed parts to convert a 4WD to either a FWD or RWD. Basicaly, if you wanted to build a 4WD from your kit you could sourc the extra bits from another car or kit. Atleast that's what I did

I owned my friends coyote back in the day after he got done with it so i am quite familiar (but rusty!). I am curius tho on the fwd- it must only need a diff and halfshafts? The prop shaft and rear input shaft have to be there so it couldnt be missing much else. Were the tires on the 4wd the same width front and rear? Thought i heard someone talk about the 2wd using narrow tires. I thought i remembered the 4wd being narrow in front also.

I couldn't agree more about articles today. Mags will cover a totally modded car and tell ya the paint code only.
