MY SUPERSHOT IS DONE!

A while back,I built a BigWig,by buying every parts tree and screw bag I needed, until I had a complete kit in front of me.
That was fun. :D
I decided to do the same thing with a Supershot and here she is.
Even managed to find a brand new, correct chassis with no 'trap door'.
I have to say,it was kinda harrowing, cutting up a decal sheet from 1985 that cost me US$75!

Stunning cars,in person...

WOW! WHAT A GREAT CAR!! That makes me want to build a Super Sauber that i've had for over 15 years. It's still shrinkwrapped though, so maybe I should find a different kit that's already opened to build. Some shrinkwrapped kits, such as the Super Sauber, don't seem to sell for much more than the opened box kits or even the assembled model. Or is it just me?

Thanks!
Pretty happy with this build. :D

Oh,go ahead and build it!
There aren't many new built Sabers out these.
Anyone can shrink wrap a box, too, man. No biggie.

That is nice,

Love the Super Shot. I have a shelf queen and a runner.

Did you buy a new Technipower & if so how much.????

What was the hardest part to find??

Simple a Tough looking Tamiya in every way and yours tells that.

Well Done.

There are ways to identify original shrink wrap from a kit that's been re-wrapped, right? LOL, though i see your point, and where you're comming from. It'd be a little different, if it was an older more desired kit, i think (egress, super champ, roughrider, bruiser...ect). Kinda like you felt cutting into that old decal sheet. there would be the same feeling for me when tearing off the shrinkwrap. it'd be a great project though, cause you just don't see these cars all the time. i think i would try to go the box art route, such as you did, but you never know.

tamiyadan wrote:The supershot used the same trap door as the hotshot, the under tray just served to smooth out the bottom of the chassis it was not mention to hold the battery by itself, check page 14 of the supershot manual.

The manual also makes it clear that using the under tray made the battery a permanent fixture of chassis since you would not constantly remove the under tray to change the battery, this was because of the original hump pack battery.
Later when the 6cell stick was standard people put pins on the side battery holders and just removed one side to change batteries.

As far as telling rere parts from original besides the bag of the parts being old, every single rere part was slightly tweaked.

The gear cases on the original do not have the reenforcement of the boomerang or bigwig, this was redesigned by tamiya after the supershot, the center shaft was redesigned after the supershot from a hex drive to dog bone the rere uses a bent wire like the boomerang and later. The Dog bones are smaller on the rere as well as the drive cups the originals are larger and colored black and silver, due to the C clips used in the transmission of the original using he rere parts to fix an original is not a straight forward swap, it ripples down the drive train and requires more parts swapped out.

The roll cage is different on the original as well, the chassis is a dead giveaway on the rere because they used a hotshot 2 chassis for the rere, the lower chassis was also tweaked to use a esc instead of the Msc and the servo mounts were modified....

The suspension arms front are different from originals as well

Anyway could go go and on but you can tell new from old if you know what to look for.

On my supershot to further prove it's pedigree I have the original supershot box and manual.

Nice supershot ;)
Gee,thanks.

The trapdoor I was referring to was the alloy one on top of the chassis.
I have the correct driveshaft and dog bones,I just haven't installed the dog bones, yet.
