Schumacher Cat saddle pack chassis

Ive noticed a few old Cats with the "white" saddle pack chassis. Was this an upgrade? I seem to remember my XLS had a stick pack chassis when it arrived. I thought that the saddle pack concept wasn't really embraced until around the thine of the Procat, though I'm clearly mistaken. Does any one have any info on this topic?

Thanks in advance.

I think it was referred to as the SPXL chassis.

Thanks for the pictures. I have that same saddle chassis and I always wondered where it came from. Why are the slots cut so that the batteries point upwards? I was going to file out the slots to an even square shape but at the front cells on each side, it would have been really weak. Thanks.

with the undertray on you will see why, the inner part of the cell (in the middle of the car) will sit almost through the chassis almost touching the undertray because of the way the belt cover is in the undertray and as you come out towards the side of the car the cell sits up more as the undertray sits more or less flush next to the underside of the chassis, this probably makes no sence but i had a go :?
