Lately I have been finding myself diverting funds from RC into a new found interest of mine. Vintage stereo equipment.

Having become somewhat irritated by our "Its cheaper to buy a new one than fix the old one." society we live in, I acquired this stereo. A 1973 Marantz 2245.



Does anyone else have any sweet gear to show off?

I have a Sansui from the 70's I got from my dad. Crazy analog power! I had it hooked up to an old set of modern 15" Pioneers when I was younger and it would blow the roof off even when just set to 2-3. It looks really cool like that one with the silver face and hardwood cabinet. I'll get the model number and snap a pic next time I'm there. I told him NOT to get rid of it like he did all of my other stuff. I'll reclaim it when I have a place to set it up properly. I'll keep my main system modern, but I hope to have a complete room of authentic vintage decor one of these days.

Still needs a complete restoration and currently serves as our bar, but it's a 1957 Kuba Imperial, which as I understand is/was the first Hi-Fi stereo cabinet produced. Sold for $1950 Deuchmarks which means nothing to me I also have a mid 70's Harmon Kardon that was my dads................somewhere

Yep, works pretty good. My wife found it and bought it for the Art-Deco appearance, I was pretty impressed with her taste

I have a '74 Marantz 2230 that puts all my modern stuff to shame. I hope to upgrade to a 2270 one of these years; that's my holy grail stereo .

You're lucky! My wife does not like anything thats not purple and covered in unicorns. I did manage to convince her to keep her doll collection in the basement though.

I don't currently have any, but have been looking. I am hoping to score a vintage McIntosh tube amp and speakers some day at a price that won't make the wife want to cause me bodily harm. Their stuff is all still made here in town. Over the last few years I've gotten to meet a lot of folks connected to production and engineering, and they all just chuckle a bit when I ask if they can get me a deal on a current piece(not that I could afford any of the current stuff even with a discount).

i have an old pioneer sx-???? model that somebody gave me, im not sure of the model its at my dads house. it's one of the 70's models that has wood sides and aluminum front. it didnt work i had had to replace some output transistors and biasing resistors. it works now and it cranks, its so crisp and clean it sound great for free!

my main setup in my living room consist of a Sound Valves VTA70 amp (this was a remake of a dynoco VTA70) with matched Valvo output tubes and matched Tesla gain tubes. I've been using that with a Mod Squad passive pre-amp (I want to eventually change my system around and just go with a solid power amp and a tube pre amp) and that's hooked to my Pro-Ject III turntable. I recently got a set of tannoy fusion speakers and I've been really happy with those!

I don´t have any real vintage stereos but always liked the look and sound of Luxman. But always was to expensive for me when I was young. The oldest unit what I have here is a CD player from Denon what was one of their first units so something from 1988/89 I think.
Now I still have my stereo what I bought 12 years ago and prefere over any mutichannel.

I have an older Technics Class A amp from the late 80s that I bought new. The thing simply is a clean solid powerhouse. Simple and clean.

I also have a working 'touch' graphic EQ from the same era by Technics. I will try to find a pic. Still have everything and it all works, including the double cassette deck

I guess my stuff is positively modern compared to what's been posted though

A bit off topic I know, but I have a question. My inlaws have had a stand alone record player for a few years now. They say it never came with a stylus...and they never bought one for it. Is a stylus universal, or is it specific to the make and model?

I know you can get universals. I'm not sure if they all are though. I know you can spend crazy money on them if you want! You can get reasonable ones too though.
